It was March, it was time for pretty weather to come, but there was still mountains of snow on the ground. She hated it. She hated winter. The only good thing about winter was snow days, and they didn't get them very often. A soft sigh escaped her parted pink lips and she watched as it froze on the air, making it look like she was blowing smoke out of her mouth. She remembered when she was younger how she and her sisters would pretend to be smoking when it got cold. Her mother would always get angry at them and tell them that smoking was bad. With age, though, Codie had come to realize that there were much worse things in the world than smoking. Sex, drugs, all that jazz. It wasn't something she messed with, but her sisters had gotten pretty bad names for themselves. Sometimes Codie felt like she couldn't get out of their shadows. They always caused so much trouble that she often went unnoticed, since she was calm one out of the four. Just like today. She took the car keys and left, and neither of her parents bothered to ask her where she was going. If it had been one of her sisters, they would have been interrogated. Her parents' trust was nice, but also slightly insulting. Was she really so boring that they knew she would never do anything fun? They were right, though. Codie had never had a boyfriend, went to a party, drank beer, or smoked. All of her sisters had done at least one of them. Codie was just too scared to do that stuff. She really listened to the teachers when they told about what drugs and alcohol could do to your body. And sex definitely wasn't her thing since she couldn't even talk to a guy without tripping all over herself and looking completely stupid. What guy would want to have sex with a girl who would probably end up having a panic attack because he was touching her? She was pretty sure only some creep with a weird fetish would like that.
She dug her toes into the snow, and pushed off, causing her swing to move a little bit. She was bored. She had left the house with the intention of getting some breakfast and then coming back. But then, she decided to see what her parents would do if she stayed gone for a couple of hours. Probably nothing. They probably wouldn't even ask her where she'd been when she walked back into the house. They would just assume that she was off with some of her friends. She smiled a bit. It was okay if she wasn't a bad girl, right?

slow it down, make it stopbefore my heart is going to pop• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • [/center] Kayleigh watched, half hidden in the shadows of the office as the dark haired young man went about his nightly routine with a practised efficiency. It was hard to think that little over four years ago the same man had come here as a juvenile delinquent and a stubborn, surly attitude towards everyone. In his place was a handsome young man who had polite manners and a good work ethic and a drive and determination to do well. Sure, he had a temper which flared occasionally, but he was a different person.
And he was all hers.
Smiling to herself, Kayleigh left her hiding spot in the shadows and walked slowly towards the stall he was in the midst of working in. She rested her arms over the half-door, leaning her weight on it as she watched. Josh paused and looked up at Kayleigh, his eyes meeting hers. A smile tugged at the corner of his lips. Kayleigh felt the knot in her stomach tighten at the sight. Pursing her lips slightly she raised an eyebrow and gestured towards the corner of the stall he was spreading straw into. “You missed a spot.” She stuck her tongue in her cheek as Josh looked behind him at the corner he was currently working on. Turning back, he mockingly pointed a finger at her. “That would be because I haven’t finished yet.” Kayleigh chuckled as he returned to his work, ensuring that there was an even coverage of bedding on the concrete floor. She moved away from the door and walked back into the office, shaking her head in amusement.
Kayleigh felt a set of hands slide to the sides of her waist and lightly squeeze there. Turning around, Kayleigh felt his hands slide further around and link up behind her back, whilst she slipped her arms around his neck. “All done?” she asked, allowing his intoxicating scent to wash over her. He nodded. “Yup. Horses are all fed and watered and that stall is ready for the new arrival tomorrow morning.” he informed her, smiling. He then lowered his head to meet hers, allowing his nose to rub gently against hers. He placed a light kiss on Kayleigh’s cheek before his lips found hers.
His lips were soft and gentle, teasing hers. His tongue fought to gain entry into the heat of her mouth. His kiss was electrifying: passionate and loving; warm and moist; slobbery-
Kayleigh sat bolt upright in her bed, or at least she tried to. It was kind of difficult to do when you had about seventy pounds worth of German Shepard laying on you as it tries to lick your face. “Eurgh! Smoke! Stop it!” Kayleigh tried to push the offending tongue away from her face but only succeeded in getting dog slobber on her hands. “Okay Smoke, I’m awake! You can get off me now.” Smokey stopped his ministrations and, as if he could understand English, he rose to his feet and jumped down off the bed. Finally free, Kayleigh drew some deep breaths of air into her lungs – it was hard to breathe when you had a four year old German Shepard lying on your torso. She closed her eyes; that dream was so real. She could even smell Josh. It was almost as if he’d actually been here with her… Don’t be silly! she mentally scalded herself. There’s no way Josh could have been here. It’s just not physically possible! Groaning, Kayleigh covered her eyes with her arm, her nostrils flaring as she forced the air out of her nose sharply. It was not getting any easier – if anything the need for Josh was only growing stronger with each passing day. Kayleigh felt the mattress sink a little beside her. She removed her arms and turned to look at the culprit; Smokey was looking up at her with pleading eyes, his paws resting in the mattress. He gave a small whine. Kayleigh rolled onto her side and propped herself up on her elbow, using her other hand to stroke the dog’s head. “What is it boy? Do you need to go out and take care of some business?” Smokey gave a small bark as if to confirm Kayleigh’s question. Kayleigh looked over at the bedside clock which showed her that it was mid-afternoon. Kayleigh sighed. “Okay boy, just give me two secs and we’ll go park yeah?” Smokey removed his paws and ran from the room. Kayleigh stared after him, confused. Her feet had barely touched the floor when Smokey came galloping back into the bedroom, his leash in his mouth. He placed his paws on Kayleigh’s knees and raised himself up, presenting her with the leash. Kayleigh laughed and took it from him. “Okay boy, just let me get dressed and we’ll go, yeah?” Smokey barked his response and Kayleigh pulled the clothes that she had worn yesterday on. Smokey led the way out of the bedroom and to the front door, his mistress in tow. The harsh March winds attacked Kayleigh’s coat, desperate to get a hold of her skin. As she attached Smokey’s leash, she briefly wondered how it was that dogs could stand to go out in these weathers with only their fur coats, but then she reasoned that their fur was there to keep them warm in the first place. Another gust of wind blew, this time chilling Kayleigh right through to her bones. Shivering, she pulled her coat tighter. It was just like home. There was still snow littering the ground; the park was blanketed in it. Kayleigh pulled Smokey to a halt and she released him from his leash; he tore off to the nearest tree to do his business. Kayleigh chuckled to herself as she watched her dog sniff out an ideal place to do his business. Rolling her eyes, Kayleigh looked away to give him some privacy and instead surveyed the park. It wasn’t overly busy. There was the odd person and couples here and there and a few dogs running around. But other than that, there wasn’t a lot going on. Everyone must have done the sensible thing and stayed indoors. The thought made Kayleigh a little envious: what she wouldn’t give to still be in the warmth of her bed right now: preferably minus a dog sitting on top of her. Kayleigh felt the full force of Smokey jumping up against her. Stumbling forward, she turned around to see Smokey standing there look up at her. “All done?” she asked. Smokey barked his affirmative. Kayleigh went to attach his leash to his collar when suddenly he took off running. “Smoke! Get back here now!” Smokey ignored Kayleigh, making a beeline for the little park with the swings. Muttering about dogs and other such irritating issues, Kayleigh started to jog after her dog, hoping that he wasn’t causing any havoc; she swore he was part human sometimes.
