- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Charlie couldn’t be more excited to have Josh transferring into Jackson, but not because of the reasons he was coming. Charlie hadn’t really spoken to her brother since he’d gone into rehab and she was going to lay into him good over it, but not before she hugged him as tight as she could. Charlie loved her brother to death, and of course she worried about him, but Josh was like Charlie, he did his own thing and there really wasn’t all that much you could do to change his mind once it was set on something. Their parents, delusional as they were being, thought it would be a wonderful idea to send Josh to Jackson so Charlie could keep her eye on him, to keep him in line. The thought made Charlie laugh. She had no intentions of breathing down her brothers neck. He was a big boy and made his own choices, no amount of Charlie bitching would change who Josh was, just like no amount of bitching would change Charlie. Their parents needed to realize that they had raised two head-strong, independent children.
Sitting in the campus coffee shop, Charlie waited for Josh to show up, anxiety and excitement running through her body. She had texted him asking him to meet her here when he had gotten all of his things into his dorm. They needed to talk, catch up, then they could worry about unpacking. The only reason Charlie ever went home anymore was to see Josh. His being in rehab had damn near killed her, Charlie had never gone this long without seeing her brother. Watching the other students come in and out, Charlie glanced down at her watch, realizing that there had still been time before Josh was late. Late. That was Charlie, late for everything except this. Being away from Josh for this long was killing her. Sure they were apart for the school year, but every vacation or holiday Charlie made sure she got to see her younger brother. Rehab had such strict rules about seeing the patients, no siblings allowed. Taking a deep breath, Charlie tried to calm herself down, she felt like she was going to explode. She had so much to tell Josh, so much to ask him. It felt like time was standing still and he’d never get there.

Josh unpacked all his stuff. He had gotten a message earlier from Charlie saying they had to meet up. He looked around the dorm. Of course, his parents were stupid if they thought sending him to Jackson was gonna make Charlie keep an eye on him. Josh could see Charlie doing what they're parents asked for maybe a week, if that, before doing her own thing. Charlie, his sister. He hadn't seen since before rehab. He may have been a "hide your emotions" kinda guy, but even he had to admit he missed his sister. Rehab had been exhausting. All those rules...you can't do this, you can't do that. He had gotten sick of it and glad he was out. He definitely didn't plan on going back, he enjoyed his freedom too much.
Josh checked his phone for the time. He had about 5 minutes to figure of where the campus coffee shop was and get there. He pulled on a sweatshirt and walked out. He started walking, only pausing to ask where the coffee shop was. Walking there gave him time to think. He was having mixed emotions about seeing Charlie again. He wasn't sure if he would be the same Josh she remembered. Josh couldn't tell if he was more nervous or excited. He walked into the coffee shop. Glancing around, he finally found Charlie. She looked as if she was in her own world. Josh smiled to himself. He was really excited to see Charlie again. He walked up behind her and tapped her on her shoulder. "Excuse me, i'm looking for my sister..."

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Normally Charlie loved watching people but the anticipation of seeing Josh was beginning to overwhelm her. She considered taking out her iPod and just listening to music to calm down but Charlie knew at this point not even music would make her relax. Charlie didn’t realize how much she missed her little brother until the anticipation of seeing him was building up and she was ready to explode. Never did she think that being away from her brother for the entire summer and part of the school year would affect her this much. Running her hands through her hair, Charlie sighed trying not to focus on the wait. It wasn’t like Josh was keeping her waiting and even if he had been Charlie would wait for her brother until the end of time.
Staring out the window, the dull roar of the other students began to blend into white noise. She couldn’t hear of understand what any of them were actually talking about, but she could hear the noise of it all. There had been so many changes in her life since she’d last seen her brother and she wanted to catch him up on all of them. Charlie knew she had to contain her excitement though, she needed to hear about how Josh was, about his time in rehab and how he was doing now. Josh was the one person Charlie never kept secrets from, so the fact that he hadn’t told her about getting involved in drugs until he was already thrown into rehab broke her heart. Of course she had forgiven him, but she needed to know why he didn’t confide in her. Charlie would have done anything to help him no matter what the cost.
Feeling a tap on her shoulder, Charlie jumped up in her chair at the sound of that familiar voice. Letting out a squeak, Charlie turned around and grabbed a hold of her little brother, well younger brother. At 5 feet tall barely anyone was smaller than Charlie. Standing on her tiptoes, Charlie wrapped her arms around his neck, planting a huge kiss on his cheek before wiping the lipstick stain she’d left behind. ”You’ve totally got her right here! Josh I’ve missed you so much it’s like totally out of control. How are you? Let me look at you?” Charlie let go of her brother and took a step back to look at him. He looked good, different but good. ”Look at you Josh, you look so…grown up….no different. Mylanta I’ve missed you.” Charlie let out a giggle. This was what she had been waiting for for the last several months, it was like a piece of her life was missing and now it was back. Life was perfect.

Josh quickly caught his balance as Charlie basically tackled him. He couldn't, but smile at how how happy his sister was. She seemed as excited as he was. Except most of his happiness was on the inside unlike hers. He wrapped his arms around her in a bear hug. Josh almost laughed when he realized she was on her tip toes to hug him. He almost back away as she kissed his cheek. But he figured no need to make this awkward. This was the moment he'd been waiting for, right? Josh smiled at Charlie as she immediately went into big...well older sister mode. He gave her a once over as she stepped back. Had she gotten smaller? "Woah Charlie...one question at a time. I'm only one person."
Josh looked at his sister as she kept talking. She was the same Charlie he had left behind when he was dragged into rehab. "I've missed you too. Hey, have you gotten shorter?" Josh asked, making an attempt at a joke. He playfully punched her in the arm. "I'm only kidding. Now, to answer your questions. I am perfectly fine. Yes, i do look the same because i'm still the same person except now I'm freshly out of rehab. Which sucked by the way." He looked at his sister. Part of him couldn't believe this was actually happening. He exhaled. "It was just rehab Charlie. You worry to much. I promise i'm fine."
He knew he probably shouldn't make rehab sound like such a joke. But he couldn't help it. It was either joke around or actually come to the realization that this was real life and he was really in rehab less then 2 days ago. As far as Josh was concerned, he wanted to pretend that rehab never happened. He was still the same Josh...except now his whole family knew he wasn't as perfect as they thought. Rehab sucked and he never wanted to go back. It was like jail there. No one actually cared about him, they were just paid to make it seem like they did.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Feeling Josh’s arms wrapped around her, Charlie could feel the tears welling up in her eyes. She had missed him so terribly and now here he was, his arms wrapped around her. Charlie knew he’d probably poke fun at her but she didn’t care. If there was one thing you had to get used to with Charlie, it was that she was emotional and she would never ever let you guess how she was feeling about you. If it was in her heart it was on her lips, or on her sleeve, however the saying went. Watching Josh look at her, Charlie smiled. It had just been way too long. She was fairly certain she hadn’t changed much, but Josh, he definitely changed. Letting out a giggle, Charlie knew she had been firing off question and after so many years her brother should have been used to it, but it still wouldn’t make it any easier for him to answer them. ”I’m sorry Josh, but I’ve totally missed you and I just want to know how you’re doing.” And once that was out of the way Charlie wanted to know what the hell he was thinking, clearly he hadn’t been.
Playfully glaring at her little brother as he asked her if she’d gotten shorter, Charlie crossed her arms over her chest after Josh playfully punched her arm. She missed this stuff. ”No I haven’t gotten shorter smart ass, I’ve always been this short. Maybe if you stopped growing I wouldn’t look like a midget.” Tilting her head slightly, Charlie listened to her brother answer some of her questions. It broke her heart to hear him say that rehab sucked. She always had to fix everyone’s problems and when their parents had dragged him off to rehab without so much as telling her until he was there Charlie had felt like a total failure. She should have been the one to help her brother not some strangers who didn’t give a crap about him.
Charlie wasn’t sure she liked Josh saying that it was just rehab. What the heck did that mean? Did it mean that it was no big deal? It sounded like a big deal. Was he not clean? The nervous energy was beginning to build back up inside her. If Josh wasn’t okay Charlie would be the one to fix it all. ”Josh, seriously what the hell were you thinking? Drugs? Really? I just don’t understand how on earth you got caught up in that.” Charlie let out a small sigh before plopping herself back down in the chair. ”Sit.” Motioning to the chair, her one simple word wasn’t a question, it was a command. She wasn’t trying to be a bitch, just an older, worried sister. ”Why do I have the feeling that you’re not being completely honest with me Joshua North?” Charlie looked at her brother trying to figure out if it had just been the time a part of it there really was something he was hiding. If he had thought he was going to come to school and still be all messed up and Charlie would sit back and let it happen, well that was a delusion. Never in a million years would she allow her brother spin into a downward spiral right in front of her blue eyes.

Josh rolled his eyes at overemotional sister. "Are those the tears I see in your eyes, Charlotte?" He smiled. Charlie had always been the gateway to emotions. She was full of them. After playfully punching her, he listened to Charlie talk. He missed the fun times they had together. Just them, together. They could basically talk about anything with each other. "You ever think that maybe you just keep shrinking? I mean it's possible...you actually could be becoming a midget." He laughed and looked at Charlie. "I'm sorry. The jokes just happen...I'll stop. I promise."
Before he could get over his jokes good, he noticed a cange in Charlie. She was definitely thinking. About what...he wasn't sure. He was pretty positive that he had to be about him. She was looking at him to intently. It was probably about his recent jokes about rehab. He knew it had been to soon to sprang the "it's just rehab" joke. As he was thinking this, she popped the question. The question he knew was coming and was dreading to answer. What were you thinking? What was he thinking? Doing drugs and becoming an alcoholic and thinking no one would know. Someone was bound to figure it out. Of course, it had taken them a while. Which surprised him alot. You would think his parents would realize that their son went from overly depressed to overly clumsy and forgetful. He was drifting away and not having fun then all of sudden he was there and was overly excited. But they didn't notice. Until it was too late. He looked at Charlie. "Charlie..."
He rolled his eyes as she motioned him to sit. He took his seat across from her and looked at her. "I know what you're thinking Charlie....I'm clean. I swear. Can we just drop it?" He looked at her with pleading eyes. "Please? The last thing I wanna talk about right now is rehab." His mood had dropped. He was here enjoying his sister's company and he didn't wanna think about rehab. Rehab. Just thinking the word brought back horrid memories. Memories that had taken all the time he'd been out to try to forget. Though he'd seen things, heard things even, that would take a lifetime to forget. Like he said, he didn't wanna talk about rehab.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Slapping her brother’s arm playfully, Charlie glared at him. ”Oh shush you. You know that I cry easily and don’t you call me Charlotte, Joshua Carter.” Charlie laughed. He was probably the only person in the world that could call her Charlotte, aside from their parents who still called her that, and still get away with it. Placing her hand on her hips, she loved the fact that they could tease each other. Charlie missed having this in her life so much, it was like a piece of her had left and now, thankfully, she had it back. ”I am not a midget and I’m totally not shrinking.” Charlie stuck her tongue out at her younger brother. ”And don’t you dare apologize or stop Josh. I miss this between us. It’s been way too long.” Even though they had gone to different schools and only saw each other on breaks, but their daily phone conversations had been like that. When he had been in rehab they hadn’t even been able to talk, it was like torture.
If there was one thing she knew about her brother was that he wasn’t going to want to talk about this whole situation. Where Charlie was the open one about her emotions, Josh just was not. That was probably the biggest difference between the two of them. She loved him, but he wasn’t getting off so easily with this. Charlie needed to know what was going on in that head of his. It was one thing to have a drink at a party, but it was another thing to get yourself so addicted that you spiral out of control. Charlie wondered if it the pressure that their parents put on him to do well, to be the best, that had gotten to him. Their parents meant well, they just never went about it the right way. Charlie was just more resilient than her siblings.
Looking at her brother now sitting across for her, Charlie couldn’t help but sigh. ”Josh we can’t forget this all ever happened. As much as I want to I just can’t let it go, not until I get an explanation. I deserve it damn it. You put me through hell with all of this. I love you more than anyone in this whole damn world and one second we’re talking on the phone and the next I get a call from mom and dad telling me that they stuck your ass in rehab.” Charlie could feel the tears of anger and sadness welling back up in her eyes. ”Why didn’t you trust me enough to tell me?” The tears were now falling down her cheeks. ”I could have helped you.” Wiping her tears so her makeup didn’t smudge causing her to look like something out of a White Zombie video, Charlie tried to smile at her brother. Despite it all she was so grateful he was there, her brother. Charlie loved him with all that she had.

Josh smiled at Charlie's tears. Overemotional or not...he still had fun being around her. The good times was what he missed most. "But I love the name Charlotte. It suits you. Josh laughed. He and Charlie always had a great relationship. That time in rehab had been horrible without her. He had no one there that actually cared. No one he could actually joke around with. Except for...well that was something he needed to forget. Josh was glad when she told him to keep playing around. "Okay, well you sure about the midget thing?" He eyed her. "Like seriously...it could happen Charlie I swear!" He laughed until talk got serious and she made him sit.
Josh knew even though he told her to drop it, she wouldn't. Charlie was never someone you could say no to. He met her eyes and looked away. This was way more then he bargained for. He cleared his throat and looked down. Josh could hear the anger in her voice as she talked. Charlie definitely wanted answers. He looked up at her. It was then he saw them. The tears in her eyes. This wasn't what he wanted. He never meant to make her cry over him. Trust her. She had asked him about trusting her. He did, he trusted her with his life. The probably wasn't her, it was him. So why was she blaming herself. "It's not you, Charlie. I trust you, but this had nothing to do with you. It was my problem and it was dealt with and it's over. He looked into her eyes. "You have your life and I have mine. And as much as you wish you knew and that I told you. I couldn't Charlie. Some things just aren't meant for you to know and this is one."
Josh inhaled deeply. "But you're right. I do wish this would go away, but I know it won't and it can't. Right now, though, I just wanna have a good time with my sister like I planned." Charlie wanted to know things he just wasn't prepared to tell her. He had screwed up alot and it was effecting Charlie even though he didn't want it to. "Let's not talk about it right now...please Charlie?"

Charlie couldn’t help but smile through her tears hearing her brother say that he loved the name Charlotte. While she didn’t agree with him, Charlie liked that he thought Charlotte suited her. To her it was still a snobby rich girls name or worse, an old woman’s, but if her brother liked it then maybe it wasn’t that bad after all. Of course she didn’t want to be called Charlotte. ”I guess it could be worse, right?” Charlie couldn’t help but roll her eyes at her brother when he asked if she was sure she wasn’t a midget. Of course she wasn’t a midget, she just wasn’t as tall as most people. It was part of what made her adorable. ”Of course I’m sure you jerk. I’m not a midget, I’ll never be a midget.” Charlie stuck her tongue out at her younger brother playfully. After everything that had been going on with her friends and with Josh, this was exactly what she had needed.
Charlie could tell by the look on Josh’s face, and his inability to keep his eyes locked on her, that he was upset. She knew pushing him was going to overwhelm him, but after a lifetime of dealing with Charlie, well Josh had to get used to it. Charlie loved him way too much to let things slide. Once she had that answer she could let it all go, let bygones be bygones and move on toward the future. Wiping the tears from her eyes, Charlie sat there listening to her brother. His words cut through her heart like a dull knife. If he trusted her then he should have been able to tell her. To hear Josh say that he had his life and she had her caused the tears in her eyes to flow even more. How on earth could he think that? ”If you trusted me Josh then you would have told me regardless. I’m not quite sure I even know who you are right now. I’m your sister damn it, the one person you should tell every damn thing. I don’t want to hear that bullshit about I have my life and you have yours. What I want to hear is the truth.” Letting out a sigh, Charlie felt bad for raising her voice at her brother, but he needed to know how she felt. She loved him regardless of how or why it happened, but she would never get over it all if she didn’t know why.
Blowing her bangs out of her face, Charlie tried to smile even though she was angry and sad. She wanted nothing more than to move on, to be able to just hang out with Josh the way they used to. Maybe it could happen or maybe things would be completely different now. Charlie hoped that things hadn’t changed. She wanted to give in to Josh’s request but it went against everything she believed. ”I want things the way they were Josh, but without the truth I just don’t know how they can. It’s like I’ll always be thinking that you’re lying to me.” Why couldn’t she just let it go? Because that wasn’t Charlie and if she hadn’t compromised herself yet, she simply wasn’t going to now.

Josh laughed. "It could be worse...your name could be Barbara and we could call you Barb." He smiled. He missed these moments. "Or Barbie! That's even better." He laughed. He knew that would send Charlie over the edge. She hated the whole rich, prep girl thing. Charlie, of course, was never like that. "Alright. The midget jokes are over since you're so sure." He paused and smiled. Well, maybe just one more... he thought. "You might wanna get that checked out though...just saying." He laughed as she stuck her tongue. She always handled his jokes well.
Josh closed his eyes when he saw Charlie cry because of what he was saying. He looked around as she raised her voice. He saw the sideways glances people were giving them. "Listen, you're misunderstanding me." He looked at her fully for the first time since they got here. "I didn't mean to piss you off and obviously you don't know how to take no for an answer." He paused and glanced down quickly. His mouth suddenly felt dry. He swallowed hard and licked his lips. "Charlie, I know your mad and what not, but you don't understand. This isn't as easy as you think!" He shocked himself by raising his voice at her. He quickly lowered his voice again. "You want the truth, but you can't handle, Charlie. I can't even handle the truth. It's fucking hard. You won't even understand the truth and don't pull that you can try to understand shit."
He exhaled deeply and looked down. He and Charlie had had disagreements before, but never as bad as this. This was really bad and it was breaking his heart of how bad they were fighting. All over his one stupid mistake that she would never get over. He looked back up at her and saw her trying to smile. Now, he missed the smiles and the laughter. He just wanted things back to normal, but that wasn't happening. "It's not that simple. I'm still your brother Josh. So treat me like you treated me before I was Joshua Carter North, inmate at CAC Vitamins." He hated that place. He was with rehab. "I don't wanna talk about this anymore."

Hearing her brother laugh felt good, she’d missed that sound. Actually, Charlie had missed the times when it would just be the two of them hanging out, doing nothing at all but keeping each other company. Charlie laughed herself. Josh was right, it could be worse and Barbie was definitely worse than Charlotte. ”Okay, you’ve got me there, but don’t you think I’d make an awesome Barbie? Neon Barbie!” Charlie fluffed up her hair playfully. Barbie was one thing she wasn’t, unless of course Barbie was loud, hyper and a total space invader. Letting out a sigh, Charlie was definitely happy being around Josh, happy to have this all back again. Playfully glaring at her brother, Charlie burst out into laughter after a second. ”Fine, you’re right. Maybe I should run away with the circus. I could be the midget or even the sideshow freak.” According to their parents she was already well on her way to be the freak, maybe even achieved that status. Charlie thought that after all these years of looking the way she did they’d be used to it by now.
Charlie watched Josh as he checked to see who was watching her little outburst. She didn’t want to air his dirty laundry in front of everyone and she’d felt bad for raising her voice, but she was really getting upset. The sound of her brothers voice instantly calmed Charlie, it usually did. She smiled a little when Josh said she didn’t know how to take no for an answer. He was right, she never did. Once Charlie had an idea in her head there was no turning back no matter how many no’s she got. Usually the other person just gave in to her. Hearing Josh raise his voice, Charlie let out a tiny gasp. He almost never raised his voice, at least not with her. ”Don’t you yell at me Joshua Carter, I’m not some bitch off the street you can just yell at.” Sure they argued like any siblings did, but it was usually petty stuff. This wasn’t petty, this was as real as it could get. Instantly the tears began flowing even harder. ”Why are you trying to protect me Josh? I’m a big girl, hell I’m older than you are for crying out loud. I know it’s hard but you don’t have to go through this by yourself. Stop trying to be a martyr, you’re only human.” Charlie wanted to be mad, she wanted to scream but she was too sad, too hurt. How could her brother think that she wouldn’t understand? If one person could understand it would be Charlie. She felt like she was failing her brother miserably.
Charlie looked past her brother, wiping the tears once again from her eyes. This was supposed to be a happy reunion. What the hell had happened between them? If she had known that the last time she had seen Josh it would be all different when they saw each other again Charlie would have thought she was crazy. She wasn’t crazy though, things were different and she wasn’t quite sure how to fix them, they had to be fixed. Sniffling, Charlie looked at her brother. He really did look different. ”How can I treat you like Josh when you’re not even acting like him? You know what I’m like, you know I need to take care of you but you’re fighting me every step of the way.” Charlie tucked her hair behind her ears. ”I love you Josh and I want to fix all this but you have to meet me halfway.” He had to be willing to budge, he help her help him, to help them, otherwise their relationship wouldn’t make it.

Josh burst into laughter as his sister pretended to be barbie. "Charlie seriously...you a barbie? Not even in a guy's wildest dreams." He smiled. He and Charlie had always joke around alot more then other siblings. The joked on each other and sometimes hurt each other's feelings, but in the end they still loved each other. This was just one of the many ways they showed it. He stared back at her as she glared at him because of his comment. "You know...the circus isn't a bad idea. I could take you i you want?" He smiled. This was exactly what he needed. Time with Charlie again.
Before he could think straight, he and Charlie were having an arguement. Just a silly sibling arguement right? Wrong! Charlie had raised her voice at him. Instead of him handling it well...it fussed back, raising his voice, shocking both him and her. He knew it hurt her when she cried harder. "Ugh! Charlie..." He put his face in his hands, running them down his face. "Please stop crying...you're not making this any easier." He quickly inhaled and exhaled. This was, by far, the worst arguement he had ever been in. Part of him understood where Charlie was coming from. He was her younger brother and she wanted nothing more then to protect him and make his problems hers. But the other part...was making him push her away. He wanted live and let go. Forget the problems. This was also the reason he did what he did. This...part of him couldn't handle what everyone expected from him. She...Charlie...was part of the reason. His parents pushed him harder after she didn't live up to what they wanted. How can he tell her that? That some of his problems were because of her.
He realized he was way to quiet. Josh cleared his throat and set his hands on the table. "I know that i'm only human Charlie. I know you want to help and I know you think this is your fault..." He paused. That's what his parents had blamed it on. On Charlie. "But it's not. No one knew...not just you. Not mom, dad, Cadence, the football team...no one. I just let go...of life Charlie. That...that's just a part of me you'll never fully understand no matter how much I tell you or how many times I tell it to you." He ran a hand through his hair, huffing out a breath. "I'm sorry, Charlie...that it hurts you so much." He stood up and looked at her, opening his arms. "Come here."

The sound of Josh’s laughter warned Charlie’s heart. She couldn’t help but wonder how long it had been since he had really just let it all out and laughed. Charlie assumed that he had laughed in rehab, laughing was usually a daily thing, but how long had it been since her little brother had just let go and really laughed? It was nice, even if they were poking fun at her. He was right though, there was no way on the face of the earth that Charlie could ever be a Barbie doll, unless of course Barbie had gone and dyed her hair black and neon pink. Most people didn’t realize that Charlie was a natural blonde except for her siblings and Zander. Charlie had every intention of keeping it that way. ”Maybe in his wildest ones.” Charlie giggled and winked at her brother. It would be a twisted dream that was for sure. Charlie stuck her tongue out at her brother. ”I’m sure mom and dad would love that. They probably assume that’s where I’ll end up anyway.” Charlie’s parents still had hope that she would change her mind and go to college after she graduated in June, but there was no way Charlie was going.
Charlie had wanted to stop crying, she knew it would hurt and frustrate Josh, but he had to know how she worked. In her heart, on her sleeve. Charlie had always been overly emotional, whether it was being happy, angry, sad, whatever, Charlie felt that feeling to the nth degree. Fighting with Josh after not seeing him for so long was killing her. This was supposed to be a happy reunion. Josh was supposed to trust her and tell her everything, except he was telling her absolutely nothing except the fact that he couldn’t trust her with what happened and that she wouldn’t understand. What on earth was he protecting her from? ”Well, what the hell am I supposed to think Josh?” Even though she was coming across as angry with him, Charlie was far more hurt than anything else. She tried so hard to be the best person she could be, but she just never seemed to measure up to her brother. Their parents had always gone on praising about how wonderful Josh was, so grounded, so smart. What was Charlie? She was the odd one, the dreamer, the one who was throwing her life away on a senseless dream. Charlie knew that their parents had put a lot of pressure on Josh. All she wanted was to help him through it all.
Listening to Josh talk, Charlie tried to look him directly in the eyes but she was so hurt. Of course he was only human, she was too. Her incessant need to help people, to make them happy, that was because of their parents. Growing up Charlie had always been the sweet one, the hyper one, basically the odd one. Their parents had told her time and time again that if she didn’t calm down and behave like the other kids she would never earn people respect or understanding. As she grew older and in her parents eyes became more odd they added the ever heard, no respectable man will ever love you like this Charlie. They wanted her to conform to societal norms, but she couldn’t. Charlie was never one to be someone she’s not, so instead she over compensated, and when she couldn’t help those she loved Charlie felt like a complete failure. Right now she was failing Josh miserably. ”Part of it is my fault Josh, you and I both know it. If I wasn’t so…me, then mom and dad wouldn’t put all kinds of pressure on you to be perfect.” Charlie sighed. Looking up at her brother, Charlie stood up and walked over to him, wrapping her tiny arms around her younger brother. ”I love you Josh, I just want you to be happy. Truly happy.” She tightened her grip on him, holding on for dear life. She had been away for him so long that she was afraid that she would lose him again.

Josh hadn't laughed in a long time. Not really anyway. He had had some good times with...her, but that was different. He'd never see her again. It ended when he was released. Times with Charlie were amazing. He loved and missed these times. "Wildest ones...okay Charlie. That's gross." He shook his head and smiled at his sister. He knew she was still a virgin. Why? He had no idea. "Let's not mention the parentals. They're crazy and I'm done with them for good. I'm thinking about emancipation. I'll still have you and Cadence, but I can't deal with them. He paused, hoping Charlie would be okay with it.
Josh was starting to calm down. He needed to hear her and stop overpowering everything she said. "Charlie, I'm sorry okay?Don't be upset." When she heard Charlie say it was her fault, he was hurt. He had blamed it on her at first, but he knew it was his own stupidity not hers. Hugging Charlie, he knew she was hurt. He exhaled and rested his chin on her head. "I love you to Charlie and I'm happy..." He paused. "Truly happy. I promise you that. I'm here with my big sister and we're laughing like old times. How can I not be happy? I miss this and you. Let's not ruin it." He bit the inside of his lip as his phone vibrated. He took it out his back pocket and looked at the number. It was her. He quickly opened the message. "She's here."

Charlie couldn’t help but let out a huge laugh. She knew that would totally gross Josh right out, actually it sort of grossed her out too. It wasn’t that Charlie didn’t think about sex or didn’t want to have it, she did eventually, but for her it was about being in love not just giving it to anyone who wanted it. What grossed her out about it was even mentioning it to Josh. That was something she didn’t want to think about, but then again she was pretty sure that he didn’t want to think about it either. ”You’re totally right, that was gross.” Charlie tilted her head hearing Josh say he wanted to get emancipated. Was it really that bad? They had always given Charlie a hard time, which she dealt with in her own way, but what could have made Josh want out that bad? ”Is it really that bad? I know they can totally be unreasonable and they aren’t the most open minded, but what’s going on?” If Josh went through emancipation their parents would cut him off for sure. It wasn’t all about the money, but if he was emancipated then he would be on his own, no help from anyone. That made Charlie nervous.
Trying to smile, Charlie felt bad that she had snapped at Josh. She was just so worried about him and he wasn’t giving her anything to calm her. How was she supposed to walk around knowing that there was clearly something serious going on with him, something that maybe she could fix if he would just open up to her. ”No, it’s my fault Josh. You know how I am. I don’t know how not to push and push. I just want to help. You can’t go through whatever it is all alone.” The thought of Josh alone tore Charlie up. Hearing Josh say that he loved her and that he was happy, Charlie tightened her arms around her younger brother. She loved him so much not matter what he was going through. ”I’ve missed you so terribly. I have so much to tell you” She didn’t want to bombard her brother with stories about Zander if he wasn’t ready to hear them, but she was dying to catch him up. Charlie looked up at her brother curiously. ”Who’s here?” Aside from Zander and Charlie, she wasn’t sure Josh knew anyone else at Jackson. She hadn’t told him Cadence would be transferring in yet, she didn’t want to completely ruin his day.
