personality:
That saying, 'don't judge a book by it's cover' can pretty much apply to everyone, including Sam. She isn't your typical girly-girl, but she also isn't a super tomboy. As a matter of fact, she detests those girls. Sometimes, she shops all day at the mall, picking out hundreds of different color skirts and heels, and other days, she goes fishing with her dad, just so she can hang out with him. It's just a matter of balance, and whatever she feels like that day. Sam likes televison, but won't let it run her life, just like a lot of other things, including her peers. It happens to everyone occasionally though, and when she feels her hold slipping, she tightens it until her knuckles turn white. At least that's what it feels like.
Sam is confident, the kind of girl with plenty of friends who think they know everything about her, but they don't even truly know half of it. She makes friends easily because she isn't afraid to approach people and strike up conversations, and she likes to joke around and knows how to have fun. Her reliable nature also makes her an easy person to be friends with too. When Sam says she's going to do something for you, it usually gets done, unless something horrible happens. She's a sweetheart, and normally a very agreeable person, but everyone has their weaknesses.
A turn off to some people is the fact that Sam can be cocky. She doesn't mean to be, but when she feels threatened, she goes into 'I-can-do-anything' mode. It's her wave of hiding that she truly isn't unstoppable, even if her friends think she'll be class president someday. Another thing about Sam is that she's a tad pushy. She loves helping people, but sometimes she thinks that if people don't do whatever it is her way, they're doing it the wrong way. Usually, she apologizes later. Much later, because apologies are an entirely different package of crayons for Samantha.

Carrie watched her friend smile, wishing to herself that she could truly tell her what it meant to have her mother watching the child. It definitely wasn't all cookies and rainbows, like she often pretended, but a struggle every day. But then again, the blonde probably had her own problems and there were people who had it worse off than she did. "Ohh, Elsie would prefer to torture me with those types of things. She says Gramma doesn't know how to sprinkle the cupcakes just right or she gets too mad about Elsie having to have exactly six m&m's in every cookie. It's a tough job, but I like spending time with her." Carrie explained, laughing to show that the 'torturing' part was a joke. The woman enjoyed that time with her daughter every evening, wouldn't give it up for the world. She turned to watch her snapping pictures of the girls, hoping that there were no shots of Elsie akwardly trying to get sand from her pants or the concentrated look on her face as she pulled her hair back so she could see.
Bringing her attention back to Teagan, Carrie laughed, noticing how bright her eyes had gotten when she mentioned snow. Elsie and Carrie both had a love for cold weather, Elsie a whole lot more. As soon as Thanksgiving was over, the child demanded that they rearrange the entire house and make it more cozy. Because, it was soon to be Christmas at that time, and that meant the thick Christmas curtains, rugs, wreaths, lights, and most importantly, the tree. While Carrie listened to her friend chatter, her eyes lit up more and more. The woman seemed to be the older version of Elsie. It was a trait that both enchanted Carrie and left her completely flabbergasted. "Elsie absolutely has to make a snowman right after the first snow, and that night we have to have hot cocoa and cookies. When she goes to bed, she insists that we read on the window seat with the window open and the curtains pulled back. And that's the first night that we read The Night before Christmas." She explained, bursting into laughter every now and then. Teagan, Abbi, and Elsie proved to be good for the soul.
Complete and utter honesty wouldn't have bothered Carrie one bit. The woman certainly seemed fine, and she never would have guessed that there could possibly be something terribly wrong in her life. Anyway, Teagan telling her story would have motivated Carrie to tell hers. That she wasn't okay, that she hated her mother a little more with every passing day, that she was extremely lonely and often jealous of her friends, who had husbands, and that Dave had made it a little harder for her to look at men the same way. It sounded like a soap opera, but it was her life, and she was beginning to loathe it. She could never hate it completely of course, not with her friends, or her daughter, but there was a bitterness behind her shiny exterior that a lot of people wouldn't believe. But then Teagan spoke and Carrie focused most of her attention on the blonde, some still being paid to the girls. "It is such a good age, they're so interested in everything around them and enjoy learning. They ask questions about everything and see every glass as half full." She smiled, Elsie coming to mind. "I understand, I don't know how I'll feel when Elsie gets older, I wish she could stay five forever." Carrie sighed, meaning every bit of that sentence. Teenagers, with their constant disdain for her art, or the perverted adolescent boys who constantly have something vulgar to say, weren't exactly her cup of tea.
