personality: shauna is a leader. ever since she entered pre-school at the age of five, people have looked up to her. she can be bossy, especially when things aren't going well, but overall she's sweet, crazy, friendly, and quirky. she can't carry a tune in her pocket and has no sense of rhythm, but she loves to sing and dance anyway. she doesn't care what anyone thinks of her-at least, that's how she appears to others. inside, she really does let what other people say about her get to her, but she would never admit it.

Shauna blinked and bit her lip. She had to keep herself from crying. She knew her mother was awfully upset about having her only child leave to live in a place without her a full two years before expected. Shauna knew it was killing Sasha inside. Sasha wasn't doing a great job of not showing it. So Shauna had to be strong for the both of them.

Bentley came around from behind Shauna and put his arm around his little girl. He handed her the keys to their beat-up yellow Volkswagen Beetle. Shauna had ridden to Jacksonville in her mom's Cadillac Escalade so they could have some bonding time while her daddy had driven the Beetle so Shauna could have it at her boarding school. Jalena barked from the little carrier Shauna carried everywhere with her. She was ready to see the sights.

Shauna had gotten both the puppy and the old Beetle for her sixteenth birthday two days ago. It had caught her mother's eye upon browsing the school's website that juniors and seniors were allowed to have pets and cars on campus, and Sasha couldn't let her little girl go without a privilege. So she had bought Shauna the puppy and given her the Beetle while she bought herself a brand-new Cadillac Escalade.

"This is it," said Shauna. She hugged both of her parents and gripped the keys to her Beetle, which was loaded down with her things. She pulled Jalena's carrier a little further up on her shoulder and wiped a tear from below her mother's eye. "Mami, I'll be just fine. I've got Jalena here to keep me company until I make some friends, which won't take long. And you'll be fine, too. You've got Papi here, and he loves you no matter what." She kissed her mother on the forehead. "I have to go. Orientation starts in five minutes. I love you!" And with that, she climbed into her Beetle and headed in the direction of the Assembly Hall.
