After school, Megan went straight up to her room and locked the door. She sat down on her bed, fighting her tears back. So much had been going on lately. More than Megan could really handle. Despite what anyone, even Aidan, would say...she really never believed a single word of it. 'Daddy loves all of us.' 'It's not your fault, Megan.' Yeah, right. She didn't buy a word of it. In Megan's eyes, none of that would have happened if she hadn't been acting out.
Acting out? When all she was, was a scared little girl inside. But was anyone worried? Concerned? Of course not. Megan was trying to make herself believe that they would all be better off without her. So, maybe, that wasn't true. But it was better than the truth.
Okay, so Aidan knew the truth. But she wasn't worried about him telling. Not anymore. Because Megan wasn't planning on staying here. She was planning her escape...her get away.
There were things that had to be done before her train would leave at ten. A note to write, belongings to pack...So when it came time to dinner at seven, all Megan had said was that she was not hungry and stayed locked up in her room. There was no time to waste, not today, not now.
Okay, so Megan didn't want to leave. She loved her family, more than they probably knew. Which is why she had to leave. Megan wanted to protect them. Her leaving was for their own good...or so she believed.
Megan got up from her bed and walked over to her closet. She pulled out her black duffel bag and set it down on her bed. Going over to the dresser, she grabbed some clothes and stuffed them into her bag. Afterwards, Megan sat down at her desk and turned on her laptop. She thought about the right words to put as she turned on Microsoft word. This would possibly be the hardest thing Megan would ever have to write. She began typing...
To My Loving Family;
I am so sorry. But I just can't stay here anymore. It's for everyone's own good. Now, don't get me wrong...I love all of you. So very much. But, now, I am afraid to say that it is time for me to move on. I have to live on my own two feet, now. Remember, I had to learn to be strong at a very young age. But also believe that you showed me how to learn to love, to trust. You mean the world to me. And, please, do not worry about me. I'll be just fine on my own. I love all of you. Goodbye.
Love Always,
Megan
Megan left her laptop on and opened so that her letter would be found. Hopefully, they would just understand. Hopefully, they would just let her go. A few tears escaped from her eyes, but she quickly wiped them away. This had to be done.
Megan opened her desk draw and grabbed two things. First, she pulled out her broken locket. More tears fell. She held it tightly. "I love you, mama." she whispered, quietly, before putting it, safely, in the pocket of her hoodie. The second thing that Megan pulled out was her switchblade. She had somewhere managed to get it back, without anyone knowing. Especially Aidan. She stuck it, carefully, inside her sock.
Looking at the time, she noticed that it was nine o'clock. One hour to get there. Grabbing her bag, she opened her window and tossed her bag outside. Pulling up her hood, Megan grabbed her purse, making sure her wallet and cell were inside. Then, unlocking her bedroom door, she slid out of her room. The coast seemed to be clear. Megan walked downstairs, slowly, quietly. No one in sight. She walked out the front door.
A house full of people. How was she able to sneak out? Megan walked to the side of the house, grabbing her bag. And headed down the street. "Goodbye." she whispered.
By the time Megan had gotten to the train station, it was 9:35. Twenty-five more minutes...and then she would be out of here. For good. She got her ticket and took a seat on the bench...Waiting.
