Tonight was the night! Mika had gone out with Jason the weekend before and they had agreed on going to a more serious environment for their next date. He had her pick the restaurant and everything, told her not to worry about the money. So she didn't. She had always wanted to try this one restaurant on the other side of town. Jason assured her he'd make a reservation and so all was well the night before tonight. Mika only had to work a couple of hours today, but rushed home with a new pink dress. Stumbling up the stairs and nearly running to her apartment door, Mika tried to hide her excitement - and her shopping bag with a clearly expensive label on it - as she opened the door and crossed the living room straight into hers. She acted like this most nights she was going out with Jason, usually ran into her room before even asking if Liam was there. Not that she didn't care, but he never seemed very interested in anything to do with Jason. Mika quickly dressed up, looking herself over. Well, she wished she would have tried it on at the store. Quickly brushing it off, she assumed she looked fine in it and continued with her make up. Only to realize most of her stuff was in the main bathroom. She scooted out of her room, silently scuffling across the hall and into the bathroom. With the door wide open, she dug through her make up bag, pulling out bits and pieces of make up. She examined each piece before setting it onto the bathroom counter top and continued digging.
"Hey Liam? I'm going out tonight. We probably won't be out as late though." She said, busily putting her make up on. Tonight, she did her make up differently. There wasn't so many shades on her eyes. Just a light brush-over and she was done. She looked herself over as she plugged in her hair curler. Her hair was already naturally curly but she decided to fix it up more than it's natural state.

Liam hadn't had work today. In fact, he hadn't had anything. In fact in fact, he needed some new friends who didn't work all the time like Mika. It felt like he was caught in a vicious circle, but it wasn't really a circle at all... now, he felt like he was confusing himself. Which was why he'd finally hooked up his PS3 and started playing Just Cause. At this moment, Mr. Tickles lay curled next to his hip. It had certainly been a long day. He probably needed to get out more.
Though he heard Mika enter the apartment, Liam didn't say anything, too caught up in trying to beat the game to make decent conversation. He didn't even notice Mika's lack of a greeting, which normally would have been enough of a warning to send him quickly to his room. But tonight, he didn't go, because he didn't figure out she was getting ready for a date in time. A fatal mistake, to say the least. However, it could have been okay. It would have been okay, if she hadn't finally managed to break through his concentration with her somewhat distracted words. "Okay," he called back. It took a moment for the information to sink in, but when it did, he frantically hit pause. Won't be out as late? What did that mean? Did that mean they were coming back here? They couldn't be coming back here - things were always so great when they just didn't come back. Even better when just Mika came back, but that didn't happen very often. What really threw him off, though, was the fact that they would return 'earlier.' Earlier as in what? As in ruining his perfectly good evening with Mr. Tickles?
Needing to get to the bottom of this, Liam stood, apologizing to Mr. Tickles who was now forced to curl up more tightly in the absence of human warmth. Then, he strode purposefully toward the bathroom. And almost fell over. "WHAT," he began, "ARE YOU WEARING?" It looked like someone had skinned the pink panther, made it into a barbie dress, and then vacuum-packed Mika inside of it. "HOW DID YOU EVEN ZIP THAT UP?" Maybe he was overdoing it, but Liam had never been known for his ability to shut up. "HE SEES YOU NAKED ALL THE TIME, WHY WOULD YOU EVEN NEED TO WEAR THAT?" By this point, the whole 'earlier than usual' issue was completely forgotten, replaced by shock of finding a hooker version of his room mate in their bathroom.

The 'okay' Liam returned made Mika relax. He sounded too busy to move. This was good. He wouldn't come in and make her feel self conscious. She looked herself over as she waited - impatiently - for her curler to warm up. Just as she had her back turned to the mirror, her body was turned awkwardly so she could see how her own backside looked, she heard Liam. And he wasn't being very quiet. His excited talking was so loud in the prior silence of the bathroom, she nearly jumped to straighten herself out and face him head on. Shocked at how surprised Liam was (though really shouldn't have been), Mika was almost insulted. She made a face after hearing all of his questions. "Well, we're going some place fancy tonight. It's all the way across town, though. He made reservations and everything." Her voice was small, lacking confidence, quiet. "But we're just going to go and eat and then I'm coming home." A small smile found her lips and she quietly grabbed the curler. The little light that said it was hot was blinking. "We're getting a little more serious with... what we have." She said, trying to contain her happiness. She grabbed a lock of her hair, twirling it up in the curler and holding it there for a moment. She looked up at Liam through the mirror. "How was your day today?" She said, hoping to distract his mind off of what she chose to wear that evening.

As Mika tried to defend herself, Liam just stared at her incredulously, taking in her outfit. What, so Jason was taking her to some fancy restaurant? This dress was basically... basically... well Jason hadn't earned this dress, whatever that meant. Liam crossed his arms over his chest, pressing his lips together and furrowing his brow in thought, looking Mika up and down. "Oh, yeah, reservations, that's difficult," he pointed out sarcastically, still not quite sure what to make of the situation. Really, did the girl even look at herself before she went out? Did she even pause to think about what she was wearing? "You look like... you look like..." Liam uncrossed his arms, gesturing elaborately and trying to think of the right word. Unable to do so, he instead have a short, disappointed sigh, shaking his head. "Well, good luck eating in that. " He didn't even notice her small, happy smile. Her face wasn't exactly his main focal point at the moment.
However, he did raise his eyebrows when she said she was getting a little more serious with Jason. Oh, goodie. Liam groaned inwardly, not looking forward to the days, weeks, months ahead. "It better be a fucking good restaurant is all I'm saying," he decided, obviously not quite over the whole thing. Briefly, he wondered whether it would be worth it to take a picture and send it to her grandmother. Show her what her little girl was getting up to now. But Mika would probably end up crying... Sighing again, Liam took a seat, still wearing a slightly horrified expression. "You're actually going out like that," he muttered, though still loud enough for her to hear. Why not put her down a notch or two before her wonderful big date night? When she asked about his day, Liam merely rolled his eyes. "Well, it was boring, if you really want to know. I set up the PS3." Not to be distracted, he finished with, "how much did that thing cost?"

She felt his eyes look her up and down, and actually got a little nervous. Some of the things Liam said really did hurt her, and it was like he would come in before a big night and bring her down for no reason. That was why she snuck into the bathroom in the first place. When he sounded as if he was going to compare her to something, her eyes stared up at him, hoping the fear and hurt showing in her big eyes would stop him. She looked away when he sighed, trying to keep her face from showing how hurtful he was being. She knew it was a tight dress. But she wanted it like that. If she didn't, she wouldn't have bought it. She pulled the curler from her hair, tugging at the newly curled strand until it was just right, and continuing on the other side. "It is a great restaurant. He let me pick it, and I... well I haven't been there myself but I've read it's reviews that it's amazing." She let in a deep breath and continued curling bits and pieced of her hair until it was just right. Not too curly, but sexy. She would have smiled at herself in the mirror but heard Liam, still in disbelief of what she was wearing. "Yes, I am. I like how it looks on me, and I'm sure Jason will like it, too." It wasn't Liam she was trying to impress anyway.
Though he seemed to be distracted by her question, and Mika desperately tried to grasp the subject before it was changed back to her dress. "Oh, that's awesome! What kind of-..." She heard him ask how much the dress was and her attempted enthusiasm faded quickly. "I'm not going to tell you. I just want a night where I can get what I want without worrying about anything." Mika tried to hint to Liam to shush his face already, but that bright star of hope in her heart faded dramatically in times when he was like this.

Liam could tell Mika was growing increasingly upset, but he wasn't quite willing to just shut up and let her think her outfit was perfectly acceptable. If he saw a girl dressed like that at a restaurant, he definitely wouldn't think she was a Mika type. In fact, he would think she was a straight up ho. A classy ho, but a ho nonetheless. That dress didn't do anything about Mika justice, except maybe her body, but that wasn't even part of the equation right now. That was what he was upset about; Mika was one of the best people on the planet, but no one would realize that if she went around in skin tight pink dresses. The whole thing just made him angry, and when Liam got angry, there was no controlling him. "Well, I'm glad he let you do that. That was very generous of him," Liam replied, not quite sure what this had to do with anything. He wasn't even mad at Jason right now - this wasn't Jason's fault. This was society's fault. Or something. Jason got to tap this - Jason deserved a high-five and a bro fist and a chest bump and a round of applause. Mika, however... Mika should know better.
Of course, Liam couldn't think of an uncaring way to say all of this, so he kept it inside. What could he do, really? He wasn't her father. He couldn't just ground her until she put some pants on. She was obviously going to do what she wanted to do, and if she wanted to shrink wrap herself then so be it. "Oh, he'll definitely like it," Liam agreed, a sharpness to his voice, "and so will every other guy in the place." He stood, not able to remain still under such circumstances. Managing to cut her off before she could distract him from his little tirade, Liam frowned. "Well, if this is what you want, it's what you want," he admitted. She'd probably paid a lot for it. "I mean, there are starving kids in Africa and you're starting college in the fall, but if this is what you want..." He shrugged, leaving the room. Wiping his hands of that mess.

Well, Liam seemed to be getting used to the idea of this is what she's wearing. She tried to occupy herself and try to look like she was doing something with her make up in the mirror but really had all focus on what Liam was saying. For some reason his opinion meant a lot to Mika. It was probably because he was her best friend. Her only friend. She didn't have anybody but Liam and her grandmother, but her grandma had made her move out. So maybe it really was just Liam as all she had. Liam and Jason. Jason was there... when he wasn't working. He made her forget about her stressful past. He never asked her about her parents, and for some reason that was comforting. Mika always found it an uncomfortable topic. Her parents were just a big humiliating topic. She was unwanted, even before birth. Had her grandma not stepped in, who knows where she would be right now. Maybe aborted? Maybe found alone in a public place, left by her mother the same way she was planning even after her grandma took her in. And her father... Well, even her mom didn't know who that was. She had done so many things for drugs. Mika could be the product of rape. She could simply be created on accident for a puff of meth. She tried not to show the thought effected her every day. But to think, you were never wanted. You were just an accident. Once in a while it made you shaky on your emotions. And sometimes little things could push you over your tolerance level. Sometimes they could make you feel truly unwanted. She sighed as Liam left the room.
After a moment she walked out, still barefoot, and into the kitchen. As she always did when really upset, Mika get her a glass of the coldest water their faucet would give them. She took a few sips, set the glass down and walked into her room. She hadn't shut the door, but when she emerged she had her shoes on. And avoided any eye contact with Liam. Now she didn't feel so pretty. She felt bad. She shouldn't have spent that money on herself. But she wouldn't let low confidence ruin her night. As she was walking toward the kitchen again, she heard the door knock. Her heels clicking on the ground were just a little fast as she walked to the door, opening it to find Jason wasn't even dressed for such a nice place. She smiled at him but instead of reassuring her with anything, he walked past her, grabbing her wrist - tiny frail wrists compared to his - and nearly pulling her into her room. She kept up for the most part, but was just so taken back as to why they were in her room.
After a long talk - mostly out of Jason - Mika was on the edge of her bed sobbing. He hadn't sat down or anything. But he was done, and Mika was not. She watched as he opened her door and began to leave. But Mika didn't want him to. She kicked off her heels and scurried after him, putting a reluctant hand on his shoulder. "Please don't go, Jason. I don't want you to leave. We don't have to get serious." She sobbed, rubbing her eyes which were already smeared with her make up. He shrugged her hand off his shoulder and walked to the door, telling Mika "you're getting too close, and there's other girls out there not wanting anything serious." And with that, he left. Mika sobbed and cried, covering her face and running to her room. Her once-hard-to-shut door was now easy to slam. Not caring about locking it, Mika dropped down onto her bed and cried into her pillow. Now she felt she was unwanted by everyone.

Liam had retired to the couch, trying to get back into his video game so he wouldn't have to interact with Jason. Not that Jason had much interest in interacting, anyway. By the time the knock finally came at the door, it was impossible to tell he'd moved from the living room at all; Mr. Tickles was back in his place, and Liam was completely focused on the screen in front of himself, tongue poking out of his mouth as he concentrated on a particularly difficult move. He probably rolled his eyes at the sound of Mika clicking past, but didn't look up when the door opened, or even when he heard them go into her room. In fact, he wasn't aware of the catastrophe occurring in the apartment until Jason flew past, followed shortly by an obviously distraught Mika. Not even pausing his game, Liam turned his head, listening to her words. What was going on? He stood, dropping the game controller and peering around the corner. Jason's face showed no sign of emotion, and was a sharp contrast to Mika's tear- and makeup-stained features. Not really sure what to do, Liam watched, only half visible, though nobody seemed to have noticed his presence. On his face was a look of uncertain shock. Now, he felt a bit bad about how he'd treated Mika earlier. If he'd known Jason was going to break up with her... well, it was too late for that now.
As Jason left and Mika hurried back to her room, Liam remained where he was, wincing at the slam of the door. He looked to where Mika had gone, then to where Jason had gone, and back again. 'What?' he thought to himself, glancing over his shoulder at the TV. Finally, after a long moment, he walked hesitantly over to Mika's room and knocked before letting himself in.
There, he found an uncomfortably familiar scene. Though, obviously, Mika was significantly more upset than the last time. Liam bit his lip. He'd never dealt with emotions well, but he felt like he should at least do something. After all, nobody else could help her, and leaving her alone certainly wasn't the best idea. "Um," Liam began, not really sure where he'd been going with that. What did one say to a girl whose heart had just been broken? "Sorry about the dress thing." That was a start. Liam didn't apologize very often, but he felt straight up guilty right now. "And um..." he moved forward, tilting his head to the side and trying to figure out if she was even aware of his presence, "are you... do you need anything?" This was going to be an interesting night.

As she cried into her pillow, she heard the faint sounds of Liam. Hearing his apology, she simply shook her head, her face curing in the pillow. Breathing was becoming a difficult task, but she didn't care right now. She trembled from how badly she wanted to just scream, to just make herself forget everything that just happened. Mika's sobbing slowed and she listened to Liam. But holding back her sobs and cries only made her arms shake more. She sat up at his question, an arms full of her blanket in her lap and pulled up to her eyes. "I just want somebody who will come into my life and not leave." She said through a heart broken tone, and like that she had her face hidden again. Mika honestly never saw a point in crying. It didn't bring people back, it didn't make you look cute. It made you more pitiful than anyone in the building. She rolled onto her side, her blanket now pretty much covering her torso and just the first half of her legs. After a few more minutes of sobbing uncontrollably, Mika let in a deep breath and poked her sad watery eyes over the blanket, looking up at Liam. Even puffy and hurt, her eyes were still wide and innocent looking. She let in another shaky breath and wiped her eyes. "Can you just bring me my water please?" Again, her voice nearly cracked under the pressure of holding back sobs.
The way Jason just left... She would never see him again. Mika stared down at the carpet, sitting up again and pulling the blanket to still cover her mouth. What she said first was true. Everybody she ever had, left her. And one of her biggest fears were probably losing everyone and having nobody. She was down to Liam now. And little gestures such as these assured her he was there for her. But for how long? If the one who raised her abandoned her, did it mean there was something wrong with Mika herself? She let in another unintentionally big breath, blinking and feeling a tear re-stream down her cheek. She was scared Liam would get tired of this. He would get tired of her crying and he would leave. She was so afraid of losing him. Because without him, Mika would be all alone. She would have nobody to go to, nobody to cook for. Nobody to clean after. She would be sitting there. Alone. She wiped her eyes and looked out the window. So much for buying this expensive dress that she'd never wear again. She looked at the shopping bag, tears filling her eyes once more. What an awful night this turned out to be.

Liam couldn't do much more than stand there, wondering what he'd gotten himself into. At least she'd quieted down a bit. As she sat up, he watched her warily, realizing she was about to speak. And, when she did, he again found himself at a loss for words. Really, what could he say to that? What could anyone say to that? She wouldn't have been listening either way, he figured, as she'd fallen back into a sobbing mess. He wondered if it would help to point out that she was still young and had years to find someone worthwhile to give her attention. Or to even bring up the fact that he was still around, though he doubted that was a particularly good thing. He might've even mentioned how she was a lovely person and bound to find another, equally lovely person eventually - a move he'd learned from watching various romantic comedies. In the end, however, he got the relief of being asked to get her her water, and hightailed it out of there.
It didn't take nearly enough time to locate the glass of water from earlier, and Liam paused for a moment, trying to turn off his sarcasm and bad humor before trying to make Mika feel better. He even peered at Mr. Tickles, who was still on the couch. "It's bad," he told the cat, who only blinked up at him with a tired expression. Liam watched him for a moment, then sighed, looking down at the cup in his hand. He would have to go back sooner or later. Dread forming in the pit of his stomach, he made the short return trek to Mika's room, entering slowly and sitting on the edge of the bed. He was careful not to intrude on her space, holding the glass out toward her as if afraid he might accidentally touch her. "Here you go," he said unnecessarily. Then, almost hopefully, added, "anything else?"

By the time Liam had come back, Mika had calmed down for the most part. The best thing about being dropped and abandoned so often was that you got used to the fact you had to just cope with that new loss. Her eyes looked up at him when he sat down, gently taking the glass from him and taking a little drink. "Thank you." She said in a meager voice. He asked if she needed anything else, and she thought. "Um, no. But thanks. I just... want to be alone for a while. If that's okay." Feeling so empty, Mika wanted to push everyone and everything away for a little while. She set her glass on the small bedside table and stood up, walking over to her closet and opening it, looking for a minute. She finally pulled out an empty hanger and a large t-shirt, and sighed. "I might just go to bed early. I'm not really hungry anymore." Unfortunately it was true. Even after not eating anything except a piece of toast this morning, Mika had no appetite. She felt worthless. She set the hanger and t-shirt down on the bed and paused. "Hey, Liam?" Mika was glad she thought about it before she was alone. "Can you... um... unzip my dress?" In all honesty, Mika expected to have it taken off for her by the end of the night. She pulled her arms against her chest, so that if the dress were to be unzipped, it wouldn't fly open. She looked back at him with her big innocent eyes, not realizing how much she could really get away with looking at people with them so sad.

Liam was glad that Mika wasn't outright sobbing any more, but any idiot would have been able to tell that she was far from okay. When she thanked him, he nodded, glancing at her before letting his gaze travel awkwardly back to the wall. He was hunched a bit, not as confident in himself under these unexpected circumstances, and all he really wanted was to get out of the uncomfortable situation. When she admitted she just wanted to be alone for a while, he had to struggle to keep the relief from washing over his face. "Well, whatever you need, really," he gave her a small, almost caring smile, preparing to get up and get the heck out of there as she moved to her closet. Just as Liam stood up, however, she spoke again. Not wanting to be overly difficult, he stopped, listening to her.
"Understandable," he replied, though he really didn't understand at all. How could one simply lose their appetite, just because they were upset? If Liam just stopped eating every time someone bailed on dinner, he would have been malnourished, or something. Well, maybe not. Food probably would have made her feel loads better, but he wasn't about to force it on her. His only role in this breakup, he decided, would be as the uncertain room mate. No bestest friends forever, cry on my shoulder crap. Even the thought of it made him want to puke. There was another stretch of silence, in which Liam decided he was properly dismissed. He reached for the door, practically tasting the freedom on the other side of it before Mika stopped him once again. Really, for a person who so desperately wanted to be alone, she sure knew how to keep him there.
"Yes?" he asked, sounding only slightly too chipper. Exasperation would only make Mika all sad again, and she would probably pull a 'never mind' and one of her bambi expressions. Of course, as she spoke her request aloud, he was almost glad he hadn't made his escape. He also had to struggle not to laugh but that was a different matter. It was just such an awkward situation already, and now she needed help getting out of her dress? "Er.. you can't do it yourself?" he asked, swallowing and stepping forward. His eyes met hers, portraying an unnaturally timid amount of amusement. "Well, all right," he agreed, focusing on the zipper and gingerly grabbing a hold of it. He gave it a tug then, realizing it wouldn't be quite that easy, placed a hesitant hand on her back to hold the fabric in place, giving it a good yank. That seemed to work much better, and he stepped back again, snickering quietly. "How did you even get into that thing?"

As Liam seemed to not exactly want to, Mika had accepted her fate. She would sleep in the dress. But then he agreed, and it made her night so much better knowing she wouldn't be stuck in this damn dress and instead will be sleeping comfortably in her favorite tank top and possibly even just shorts. She felt when he grabbed the zipper, and exhaled to possibly make it easier. The first little tug he gave made her shift a little, putting one foot back so she wouldn't fall completely. She exhaled a little more and once she felt the zipper was loose, let in a deep breath and instantly sighed in relief. Being that much closer to changing made Mika feel as if she were that much closer to being done with the night, done with this memory. She turned around and looked up at him, only feeling a little weird he was helping her undress. As upset as she was, Liam's snicker made her crack a little smile, and the question that followed only made her let out a shy, attempted laugh. "I guess I'm flexible when excited for something." with a shrug, Mika stepped past Liam, her back to the door and facing her bed and she grabbed her tank top.
Without really checking to see if Liam had left, Mika simply waited a moment before sliding the dress down her torso. It was so tight past the zipper she had to wiggle a little to get the rest of the dress past her butt. She stopped and grabbed her tank top, her dress falling to the ground, and slid her tank top on. She stepped away from her dress and pulled her robe off the hook from where it hung, and wrapped it around her, bending down and picking up the dress to put it on it's hanger.

Liam was still doing an amazing job of holding in his laughter, especially now that he was imagining Mika contorting herself in an attempt to get into that dress. Which was something he wouldn't have minded witnessing. In fact, he was sure it was something most straight males wouldn't have minded witnessing, which was why it wasn't weird for him to be thinking that. Of course, he didn't say anything, since that wouldn't have been tasteful at all. "Yep," was his only reply to her comment on flexibility, though he was glad he'd managed to make her brighten a bit. He watched as she grabbed her tank top, then realized he should probably leave before she actually needed to tell him to get out. He backed out the door, wondering why he hadn't installed a camera in her room yet (among other equally creepy thoughts).
Upon almost reluctantly extracting himself from her room, Liam wandered over to the TV, not really feeling inspired to finish his video game now. The evening was turning out to be far too odd. He turned everything off, grabbing Mr. Tickles and heading for his bedroom. Maybe, by the morning, the world would go back to normal. Until then, he would sleep. He brushed his teeth, then pulled off his sweats and climbed into bed. Mr. Tickles curled up at his feet, completely oblivious to everything that had just happened. Feeling a bit better now, Liam closed his eyes, preparing to head off into the world of his dreams.

After getting dressed, Mika had found herself at a loss. She sat, slumped, at the foot of her bed, wondering and tracing back to all the things that could have been the reason her relationship had ended so abruptly. Was it really that she wanted to get more serious? What did he mean by there were other girls? Maybe it was her dancing. Maybe it was the fact her roommate was a boy? Mika could only find everything ended in her being the reason. She was the flaw and that's why he left. Other girls were better than her, and there was nothing she could do about it. Simply because she didn't know how they were so much better and more appealing than she was. These thoughts lead to tears. She cried quietly, her head down and her hands over her face for quite some time. She heard the water running, assuming Liam was getting ready for bed. And that made her stop crying. She didn't want him to hear her crying all night. That would probably just make him angry with her. And that was the last thing she wanted. So after a few minutes of listening, Mika stood. Maybe Liam would be okay with being there for her the rest of the night. She felt she needed someone.
Walking out of her room and slowly striding to Liam's door, she paused before grabbing the handle. What if this was too much? What if Liam wanted to be away from her? A tinge of sadness struck her heart and her eyes once more filled with tears. She didn't sob, though. Instead, Mika took in a deep breath and very very gently knocked. "Liam?" She grabbed the handle, turning it and waiting a moment before she opened the door to poke her head in. "Liam?" She repeated, this time with a little less fear, a little more confidence. After a moment, Mika slowly stepped in. "Do you think... I can... Sleep in here tonight?" Standing in the darkness of the room made her feel very alone, yet in the dim light from outside she could see his bed wasn't flat. "I just don't want to be alone." It was a well known fact Mika was the worst at decision making. Her first mistake was telling Liam she had to be alone for a little bit. Now she wanted to sleep beside him? She let out a sad sigh, putting her hand over her mouth.
