There’s an age old saying.
Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.
And if that still held true then school was a real bitch; neglect her and she came back around to bite you in the ass when you really didn’t need the added stress in your life. She was like that girl who craved, and needed, all your attention even if you were blatantly ignoring her. She didn’t take the hint that you had better things to do in your life; like partying and having the time of your life while you were young, letting the good times roll wasn’t something school seemed to be okay with.
It might be his own fault for having attended school right away instead of taking time off, but Gary had been looking forward to college life for the longest time. It’d always seemed like one wild ride and he wanted to get in on that crazy action before it passed him by; he had done so and managed to skate by in his classes by paying off people and not cracking open a book. But with midterms right around the corner he figured he should actually try to learn something to get his professors, and his parents, off his back so he could go back to slacking off. Them always calling to see what he learned and how things were going was getting annoying; not to mention he was sure it was their way of telling him indirectly that he had better try harder.
Sneaky parents he had.
Paying someone off to explain everything he needed to know for class would be easy, hell it would probably be the way he went, but he told himself at least try to learn it on his own. Which was why he was seated at one of the tables in the back of the library with a book cracked open in front of him. His pale blue eyes danced over the words on the page but they’d often return to the first word on the page and he’d find himself rereading everything all over again. Making his efforts seem pointless if he couldn’t even retain the first few sentences on the page before him; it was probably because he really didn’t want to be doing this. His mind was on the parties he knew were going to be going on that night, and the countless women he’d hit on while there. Wasn’t that how it went? If your mind was a million miles away the task at hand seemed so complicated to get accomplished.
Sighing in defeat his eyes drifted from the page to the clock on the wall, and taking note of the time he swore the hand hadn’t moved even an inch since he’d first sat down. Glaring at the device, as if it were at fault for moving so slowly, he was ready to give up. Ready to throw in the towel and just go spend the rest of the day slacking off before he went out to have some fun and was making some other chump do the work for him. Gary was normally no quitter but when it came to school he never wanted to try and beat it. Dragging his hands over his face he tried to shake off the tiredness that was starting to weigh down his eyelids from sitting here for what felt like an eternity in boredom. Peeking over his fingertips he looked at the stacks of books he’d had piled up on the table before him, why on earth had he thought he’d make his way through all these text books? It had him chuckling under his breath at his own determination to take on the task, even if he hadn’t risen to the challenge.
Scooting his chair back from the table he rose to his full height and began to stretch out his limbs from the stiffness that had seemed to set in; glancing over at the clock again he couldn’t help but wonder how long he’d been sitting like that for. Long enough that his joints were screaming in pain; even if he could somehow sit in front of the TV for hours and would never hear them ache in agony as he refused to move from the spot he was sitting in. Must be that whole mind over matter thing he’d heard about, because in his mind it didn’t matter.
Gary couldn’t help but laugh at his own wit, even if it was only voiced in his own head, the soft melodic laughter coming out of him as he gathered up his things. Not paying attention as he stepped backwards away from the table and bumped into someone. His head snapped around to look over his shoulder to see what, or rather who, he had run into. Running his hand over his golden locks he laughed nervously, ”Sorry I wasn’t looking where I was going.” He apologized as his lips stretched out into a charming smile. The person standing before him was able to capture his attention, his pale blue eyes wandered over their frame as they awkwardly stood there waiting for the other to make their move; taking in what was before his eye a part of him thought he could be tempted to stay in these halls of learning. But that all was going to depend on what they brought to the table; seeing as they hadn’t a clue he was about to leave. Or so he thought; this person could’ve very well been watching him and waited to make their move. Of course Gary wasn’t brought to that conclusion at all, his simple mind wasn’t for thinking as it had proven earlier by not allowing him to study.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
