Mayor Nolan has been talking about this event since the start of the new year, but he never thought he'd be done his entire ticket roll with no place big enough to house the large crowd. There wasn't a single building in the entire city that had enough space for everyone, but then he started to have a great idea. Within the week a new building started to spring from the ground. He put all of his city workers on this job so it would get done as soon as possible, but to cut corners he didn't buy some of the necessary things [I.E windows]. So now the place looks like a giant two story warehouse [with rooms lining the back walls upstairs and down] and not a beautiful city hall, but he'll worry about that after the dance. He hired the best interior decorators to fix the place up inside, and since the event was taking place at night he didn't see an issue with no windows.
The night of the ball people can't stop talking about how beautiful it looks inside. Mayor Nolan is impressed himself as he makes sure the two large buffet tables have everything people would need for refreshments [at a price of course]. He can't see himself spending an entire night with the community so as the ball gets underway he slips out the door and heads home. Things are going great and the people around the city all love the masquerade, but something the mayor overlooked when setting this place up was the amount of electricity he'd be using for everything needed tonight. It's overloading the breakers and when the clock rounds eleven o'clock things start to get screwy as the lights flicker and the music jumps.
Nobody thinks much of it when everything starts working again, but soon another surge sends the building into darkness. Red emergency lights shoot up all across the warehouse as the emergency generator kicks into gear. People frantically rush for the door but what they don't know is it's security system is hard-wired into the main breaker, so once that was blown the doors automatically locked to secure the building. Thick walls mean little to no cell service so don't bother calling out for help, and the workers aren't expected to show up for a few days, so unless if someone comes to the rescue before then the people inside are trapped. So much can and should happen, so enjoy the first part of the masquerade before the lights go out!
[[ You can all start whatever threads you'd like and at some point cut to the blackout whenever you'd like, but do remember there's no getting out and no calling for help! We were thinking of everything that could happen while people are trapped together and thought of so much drama, so please take advantage of this and have a damn good time! Happy second birthday Whatever It Takes! ]]
