As Liam fell to the ground in laughter, Mika stared, lost. What was so funny? She let him finish laughing, unable to hide a smile that managed to crack through her confusion. "What's so funny?" She asked, almost interrupted by him making the excuse of too much sugar. His giggles and laughs as she tried the icing only made her laugh along, though she didn't know what was so funny. His laughter was catching on and she couldn't help but laugh back. "I don't know. I like the buttercream probably because it's just fluffier when it's in the cupcakes. " She explained. "Oh i know, this is my favorite part of baking cupcakes. Aside from watching people eat them, of course." Mika happily filled the other two frosting bags with the chocolate frosting and handed one of each to Liam. "Alright, let me check the cupcakes." She said, once again turning and bending at the waist.
She stood there a few moments, poking the cupcakes in the heat of the oven before standing, grabbing the oven mitt on top of the stove and pulling out the whole batch. The chocolate cupcakes puffed over the top, and the scent of chocolate filled the room along with the heat from the oven. "mmm." Mika gently poked the tops of each one, making sure they were all cooked one last time. "Alright they need to cool a little first before we put in the filling." Her eyes flicked over to Liam. "but don't use all of your filling because after the chocolate frosting is put on top we need to make the little swirls." She mimicked the design with her hand, eyeing the cupcakes. After a few minutes she began to pull the cupcakes out gingerly. They were still hot to the touch, but not too hot for the filling. She put half of the cupcakes on one plate, scooted it to Liam and took the other plate with the other half for herself. "Alright filling them is easy. Just poke the nozzle of the frosting bag in the top and squeeze. As much as you want, but be careful. Too much will break the cupcake." She filled one, two, three cupcakes quickly and with ease. Mika had definitely done this before. "Oh!!!" She suddenly jumped, setting the cupcake down half-filled, and practically dropping the filling bag down on the counter. "I almost forgot..." She knelt down behind the counter, disappearing for a second. When she came back up, Mika had a big bag of soft caramel chew candies. She dropped it onto the counter. "I wanted to put melted caramel on before the chocolate frosting. I almost forgot." She said cheerfully. Tearing the bag, Mika pulled two or three out and set them in front of Liam. She knew he would want one. Or two. Or three. Mika scooped a couple of handfuls of caramel candies into a smaller bowl and put them in the microwave, letting them melt while she continued filling the cupcakes.

"I see," Liam nodded as Mika explained why she liked the buttercream. However, his own opinion held strong. "I like the chocolate frosting because it's chocolate," he added in a professional manner. As she babbled on, he peered over at the oven, wondering how the cupcakes were doing. The smell wafting through the room grew increasingly stronger, and he felt his mouth begin to water. Suddenly, Mika shoved two bags of icing into his hands. He looked down at them in confusion, wondering what he was supposed to do with it. Did she expect him to decorate, or was he just holding them for her while she took the cupcakes out of the oven? Impatiently, he waited for her to finish prodding them, grinning widely when she finally deemed they were cooked enough. "Okay," he nodded, though he wasn't exactly sure how he would be able to sit there and look at them without eating anything.
When she mentioned that she did, in fact, expect him to decorate, Liam glanced at her sceptically. "Are you sure you trust me with these?" he asked, holding up the bags of icing and quirking an eyebrow. Not only would he eat a lot of it, but he would probably also get it everywhere, and his cupcakes would look like they were made by a five-year-old. Not that he was terribly self-conscious about this fact; after all, they would probably taste just as good as her perfect ones. "Little swirls. Got it," he confirmed, though he really had no idea what she was talking about. He took his plate somewhat apprehensively, waiting for her to start doing stuff before he tried anything. Just because his dad was a painter didn't mean he was good at this type of thing. Not that he'd ever tried, but still.
"Okay..." Liam tried to do what Mika described, pushing the nozzle into the cupcake and squeezing gingerly. After a moment, he stopped, pulling the icing away and peering into the cupcake. Well, it was still intact, so he must have done something right. "How's this?" he asked, looking over to see that she'd already completed two and was starting on her third. When she suddenly jumped up, he jumped, too, wondering what she was doing now. "Forgot what?" he asked, watching her kneel down and trying to see what she was getting. When she showed him the caramel candies, his eyes lit up. "Are we putting those on the cupcakes!?" he asked excitedly. This evening was just getting better and better. When she confirmed this, he had to resist the urge to hug her again. "This is so awesome!" He had never been happier to live with someone. He eagerly ate the first of the three caramel candies she gave him, beaming with pleasure. "These are gonna be so good. Is this even in the recipe, or did you just come up with it yourself?" He'd never thought of Mika as amazing before, but she was definitely amazing.

"Oh, right. How did I miss that part?" She laughed at his convincing explanation as to why he liked the chocolate frosting over the buttercream filling. "You know, now that I think about it... I might just like the buttercream because I've eaten so much chocolate since I started baking." Squinting a little in thought, also focused on the cupcakes, Mika tilted her head. Liam's skepticism on his ability with the frosting bags made her laugh. "Of course I trust you, Liam! Trust me, I thought ahead. I made a little too much filling and frosting for all of the cupcakes." She smiled at him confidently, as if she had achieved something amazing. She quickly filled the cupcakes, making it look too easy. Then again, compared to some of the bizarre things, and some of the mess-ups she's had in the past with baking, Mika was pretty experienced with simply filling them. She watched Liam in the corner of her eye, slowing down herself. Not so he could catch up, but Mika wasn't very good at focusing on two things at a time. Thankfully, Liam took her full attention by showing her his creation. She looked it over in a matter of seconds, nodding a little. "That's... really good!" She laughed, looking at him. "Just keep doing that same thing. Because you put just enough. My favorite thing about this type of filling is that it'll kind of soak into the cake around it. It doesn't make it soggy, but... I don't know how to explain it." She shrugged, smiling.
Mika always loved improvising on her cupcakes. Whether it was adding a little extra something or replacing another. The caramel candies had to be one of her favorites, though. She loved the way they made the cupcakes even more sweet, but also not over-doing it. She could always depend on these little candies to make her baking that much more delicious. And Liam's reaction was just a reassuring. Mika's eyes lit up with his, and she excitedly nodded. As Liam's next question came up, Mika paused, as if caught. "Um, well... They're not really in the recipe. But then again I don't have a recipe for these." She shrugged, smiling still. "They're just chocolate cupcakes with different frostings. But I think the caramel will top it off just right." She quickly filled two more cupcakes while speaking, starting on her third. The microwaved beeped and Mika finished filling the cupcakes, then opened the microwave. The delicious smell of caramel began to mix with the newly baked chocolate cupcakes. "mmm." Mika smiled, grabbing a metal spoon and poking at the almost-melted candies in the bowl. "They're almost done. When we put them on the top of the cupcakes, they'll cool and... well not harden, but it'll keep the filling from coming out of the top when you take a bite." She explained, filling out her last cupcake with time to spare.
