Bree stood quietly in the doorway as she stared at the kitten getting scooped into Derek's hands. She was still mad that he hollered at her an jumped to conclusions, but as he came closer the small kittens face came into view as Bree couldn't take her eyes off of the beautiful little thing. When he held the kitten out for her she was at first hesitant to take it, but as he continued to explain the situation she found herself picking the kitten up holding it in her arms as she placed it comfortably against her chest.
The cat squirmed in her eyes until it's face popped between two of her fingers to look around and all Bree could do was watch the little creature take in the entire scene. Bree let out a small fit of laughter when the kitten nuzzled it's face against her finger trying to be playful. "Aren't you the cutest little thing?" She picked the kitten up so he was level with her eyes as she watched the cute little thing blink. Everything about this little kitten in her arms had her loosening up.
When he came back over with an envelope she looked at it reading her name, and soon she was looking back up to him confused as to what these all were. Bree used her free hand to take the envelope as she was unsure if she should look in it or not, but as he said Merry Christmas she peaked inside the envelope and could see the familiar basketball tickets in her hand. "You didn't, seriously?" She looked to see which teams would be playing and when she saw the Lakers she was so excited that she could barely contain herself. "Oh my god, Derek, you have no idea what this means to me!"
She and him had just gotten into an arguement but with these tickets and this kitten in her arms she could barely stay mad. She leaned over pulling him into a hug with one hand as she made sure not to squeeze the kitten between them. The arguement was at least put on hold for not as she thanked him.

After he'd handed over all her presents he felt rather awkward, even though he was standing in his own house. Derek's gaze fell away from the happy brunette that stood before him, even though they had just fought he'd hoped he had somehow made it a better Christmas for her; he didn't have a clue how to actually do that though.
Feeling her arm curl around him in a one armed hug, he could only shrug sheepishly as if it had been no big deal; in truth to him it hadn't. True if they weren't together he wouldn't have bought her the presents but they were, or he still thought they were, so it didn't bother him to buy her these things. "Don't go getting all soft on me now." He joked as he slipped away from her and managed to sneak past her, walking backwards back down the hall. "Give a girl a kitten and some basketball tickets and she gets all cute." Making his body shiver he tried to look like it creeped him out, but that was far from the truth.
"You're not leaving are you?" Derek's index finger was directed at her, mostly to point out the jacket she still had on but from the space he'd made between them it could be pointing at anything. "Cause I think you're staying for hot chocolate...so coat off now darlin." Commanding her to do so he looked at her with a stern expression; his hand finding the handle of another door in the hall and pulling it open. "Just hang it up in here...and don't get lost, it's a small closet and doesn't go anywhere." So he'd heard about that movie where the kids went into the wardrobe and it took them to some other land, it wasn't like he believed it he just was trying to make light of the situation; wanting to stay away from fighting her but knowing he still might if the wrong thing came up.
Disappearing into the kitchen once again he got out all he needed for the hot chocolate and starting to boil the water on the stove.

Bree had no idea what was going on right now as she'd released him from the hug and he walked back out of his room. She looked at the kitten nuzzled against her sleeve and then around his room, for once taking in a better look now that he wasn't as pissed off, but she knew to follow him so she turned on her heels and stepped out of the room. This was so weird being in his house, but considering they were a couple now she'd have to get used to it.
When he asked if she were leaving she shrugged, she'd planned on it after the blowout that they'd just had, but as he pointed in her direction she looked around trying to figure out what he'd meant. She realized eventually it'd meant her jacket since she obviously wouldn't need to keep it on if she stayed around the house. Hot chocolate? What if they started to fight again? She looked down at the kitten and sighed as she started to unzip and shrug her jacket off one shoulder. She let the cat down on the floor and tucked her tickets into a pocket as she took it off all together and held it in her hand.
She watched as the kitten bounced around on the floor with it's short stubby legs trying to catch it's balance. When he opened the hall door she peaked her eyes up to look at him as he made a reference to, what the hell was that place? Narnia? "I didn't know you were into all that fantasy stuff." She wasn't even sure how to joke around him right now because this entire day was just weird. She took a hanger from the closet and hung her jacket up as she shut the door again and looked around for where the little kitten had run off too.
She walked around the corner and made her way to where she could hear water, him filling up the kettle more than likely, and when he'd had it on the stove she walked in finally finding the kitten scurrying about on the floor after whatever little toy it had found. "My present is still out there for you."

"I'm not really but I read it once when I was younger. And you look like you'd get lost in my closest." It was his bad attempt at humor, but it wasn't like she was making it easy as she seemed suddenly hesitant around; as if she were stepping on eggshells and feared if she stepped on the wrong one it'd set off a whole chain of events. Derek was heated from what had just gone on between them, he was trying to move on from it though. Why couldn't she?
The little fur ball managed to steal his attention once again as he'd found his way into the kitchen, chasing down one of the toys he'd gotten the little guy; he'd have to get her the other stuff he'd gotten for the little guy before she left, unless she was going to let him wonder then Derek would have to just take him back and hide him. Dropping so he was sitting on the balls of his feet he hunched over so he could play with the little guy. "I don't know if I want to open it if you're going to be all weird."
Derek's gaze cut up to meet hers and he slowly rose to his feet and closed the space between them, "Is this your way of telling me it's not over?" His brow arched up as he ran his fingers through his hair, pulling at the ends and messing it more so than it already was; an old habit he hadn't done in a while. Sighing in frustration he couldn't meet her gaze any longer as his eyes dropped to the ground, "Bree I just think you went about it wrong is all. You missed your friend, you could've asked him to meet you anywhere else and not make it this big dramatic thing. That to me seems like he means more than I do if you'd leave town for him...and you didn't have to tell me. Just after you left to see your family and waited to call to tell me until you were out of town I just wonder what would you have done that other time. Just try to see where I'm coming from." Derek kept mussing with his hair.
