Light crowned head bent slightly as his hand worked furiously, trying to finish the stupid drawing that he was assigned to do. It was due the next day and Christian could not draw for his life, he didn’t know that it was possible to fail art but apparently if you’re not good at what they assign you, you can fail. So far he was getting a D and that was just because of his fail art skills, plus he absolutely hated the class. Usually people always found themselves in the art room just to sit around and relax and do a nice piece of art. Others just came up here to find peace, but Christian found the opposite of peace in the art room. He hated the smell of paint and the feel of graphite smudging his fingers, it was all very foreign to him. Though the reason he was in the art room was because he had to bring his grade up. It was the only class that he was struggling in and he found that fact ironic. The blonde was perfectly fine with all academic subjects, but when it came to electives he found he wasn’t the best. In fact he could even be classified as the worst.
The assignment was to draw something abstract, thank goodness. Something abstract could mean anything at all, which meant he wouldn’t fail the assignment like he had so many before. He was surprised that he even cared about his grades, it was already towards the end of the year and he had already submitted his applications to colleges. Though he was definitely leaning on going to the community one in the area. He didn’t want to have to leave his Pagan again, not after he had just found her again. After all she had also been thinking about going to the college, though she would be going a year later than him. As long as she was in the same city as him and Christian would be able to see her regularly he was fine with wherever he went. Hell, he would even drop out of school to be with his favorite person in the world. However followerish that seemed, Christian knew that Pagan wanted him there. If there had been any sign she was getting sick of him he would leave her alone. It would hurt, yes, but he would be able to do anything if it was for the greater good for Pagan.
The pencil tip snapped, a curse rolling from Christian’s lips quietly as he stared at the blunt tip. Maybe if he stared at it long enough he would be able to sharpen it with his mind abilities. A small smile appeared on his face at the thought, standing up from the stool and approaching the pencil sharpener, making sure to keep his gaze on the ground and his pace quick. His pencil sharpened slower than he wanted it to, and he didn’t like the loud sound that it made, causing everyone to look up at him for a second before returning back to their work. He hated the least bit of attention that was directed towards him, next time he would have to bring his own pencil sharpener. He rolled up one of his sleeves as he returned to his table, noticing some stares that he got on his arm. His gaze flickered down as he hastily rolled his sleeve back down again. His scars were something that he wore with pride, something that he was able to get through and prove that he was strong enough. Though if that meant that whenever he rolled his sleeves up he would get stares, he would rather not have them.

With Toby still in the hospital, Charlie’s dad had set it up with the school to have her pick up all of his school work so he wouldn’t fall behind anymore than he already was. Toby was slowly getting better, but he still had a long recovery ahead of him both physically and mentally. Charlie was just grateful that he was safe and that he’d never be put in harm’s way again with his father. Things were still going well between her and her father, she was grateful for that, but Charlie was waiting for the bomb to drop. Dr. North had been sidetracked by everything going on with Angel and Toby, plus she knew he was still focused on what was going on with Cadence and Josh, but it was only a matter of time before Charlie’s father remembered that graduation was just around the corner and she still refused to go to college. Charlie sighed at the thought. With everything her siblings had put their parents through she still couldn’t understand why on earth they couldn’t just let this one go. It wasn’t the end of the world that Charlie had no desire to go to college, it was only college for crying out loud. She was already involved in what she wanted to do, music was her life and no course or professor was going to be able to teach her what she already knew how to do. Charlie had been writing music since she could write, or at least spell and she had been producing her own music for years thanks to Draven. Technically she was a music producer, she worked at Music Central and was beginning to establish her name in the music industry, making new contacts every day. Nothing compared to getting out there and doing what she loved, no professor could give her the experience she was getting on her own.
As she walked into the art room, a smile fell on her lips. This was the very room she had run into Toby for the first time, her babybear. It had seemed like a thousand years ago but in all reality it was only a short time ago. Now, she was on his way to being her brother, replacing her own brother Josh, who was in the process of getting himself emancipated. Her blue eyes scanning the room for Kade, Charlie didn’t see him, instead her eyes zeroed in on an unfamiliar face. The male clearly had been having issues with his pencil. She couldn’t help but let a giggle escape her lips as she watched him, his lips muttering what she could only assume to be a curse, though she was far enough away from him that Charlie couldn’t hear him or he had just cursed that softly. Her blue eyes followed him as he got up to sharpen his pencil, clearly uncomfortable with any attention given to him in the process. Odd. It was only sharpening a pencil, but Charlie knew that not everyone was as comfortable being the center of attention as she was. Charlie’s head tilted with curiosity as she watched the male roll up his sleeves. It wasn’t the actual act of rolling them up, but the way he reacted to the way the other students had looked at him. Was there something that she was missing from across the room? Clearly whatever it was it had been enough for him to roll them back down to hide whatever it was the other students were looking at.
Shrugging to herself, Charlie walked deeper into the room, still no sign of Kade. How on earth could he be the teacher if he wasn’t even in the room to teach? Whatever, it wasn’t her problem. Charlie had enough to deal with when it came to her life and everything that it was wrapped up in at the moment. There was only one teacher she had concerned herself with and Kade wasn’t it. Ben. A huge smile fell on her lips at the thought of him. While things were quiet for the moment she knew that at any moment they could blow up and it could end in absolute disaster. Charlie knew it was only a matter of time, she just hoped that when the proverbial shit hit the fan that Ben would still find her worth it all. She loved him and it would kill her inside to lose the one person who understood her oddness and wanted to be with her anyway. Charlie made her way towards the unfamiliar blonde male. Maybe it was her curiosity and not knowing who he was or maybe it was just because he looked like he could use a friend or at least someone to distract him from whatever he was working on, but Charlie felt the need to talk to him. Standing beside the male as he sat at his table, Charlie still had to look up at him but that didn’t surprise her, that’s usually how it always was since she was less than five feet tall. She could feel the excitement starting to take over her body which generally turned into hyper energy, a giggle escaped from her lips. ”Whatcha drawing?” Charlie smiled at the male, peeking over his shoulder at the paper. ”So, I was wondering if maybe you could tell me where Kade…uh, Mr. Knight was? I totally need to get some homework for my little brother from him and well I don’t’ see him, not like I could miss him if he was in the room or anything. Oh and I totally noticed that you seemed frustrated with whatever you’re drawing. I guess that’s why I never took art, it’s so not my thing. I can’t draw to save my life. Give me a pen and paper and I’ll write you a song, but a picture, forget it, you’d get a stick superhero or something equally as lame.” Charlie stopped for a second, pondering everything she had just said. ”I’m Charlie.” She laughed, knowing full well she probably just scared the living daylights out of the blonde male, she usually did when she first met people.

It had been hard for Christian when he first came to Jackson High, since of course he was the new kid and since he was slightly ahead in all of the classes he was placed in. When he had first arrived people had made fun of him because of how much older than everyone he looked and because of the way he dressed. His dark clothing and style had made the other kids uncomfortable in his presence so they resorted to just making fun of him and bringing him down. Christian had come back to his dorm more than once beaten up and bloodied. It was degrading; to have a bunch of seniors gathered around him and just beating up every inch of skin they could reach all because he looked funny and liked to sit in the back of the room and keep to himself. Sure he was insecure but he wouldn’t know since he barely came out of his shell just to even think to himself. The teachers thought that he was anti-social and needed to talk to a guidance counselor but the counselor had just sent him on his way after a couple of sessions of dead silence. Some counselors just kept on having silent sessions to see if the student or their client would end up talking because of the uncomfortable silence. Christian just sat there, looking at his hands and doing absolutely nothing. It was something that he was good at. Nothing. Since he did it every fucking day. The person had finally just gotten annoyed at his silence and told the principal that he was fine and just didn’t like talking to people. Though the counselor didn’t know just how wrong he was about Christian being fine. If the guy had known that the blonde senior sometimes went back to his room to cut himself, he definitely would not have made that ‘fine’ assessment about him. Of course Christian was a pro at hiding everything from everyone so he could pass on that ‘fine’ list.
The principal of course had believed what the counselor said and had let Christian get out of wasting a whole forty five minutes with the person where they talked of absolutely nothing. Apparently the blonde senior had made the counselor uncomfortable with his own job, whatever it was he was just happy to be rid of the period of wastefulness. After all, Christian could be going to the art room to bring his grade up, like he was doing now. It was true, when he had been being counseled, he had been falling even more behind in electives and he didn’t want any of the higher powered teachers in the school finding out about his situation. The fact that he really had absolutely no one on this earth besides his Pagan and that his principal thinking he had parents paying for his school was really a lie. He had forged all the paperwork and was basically going straight from school to work everyday in order to pay off the fee to actually get an education. It was hard work and definitely a struggle for Christian to keep up with everything, though it helped that he was slightly ahead his grade in all the curriculum or he would definitely be falling behind. Thank goodness he was on top of everything and was always in the back so he never made a big deal about anything.
Blue eyes flickered up as he felt someone’s gaze resting on him, he met the gaze of a very short girl but looked back down at his drawing quickly, not wanting to draw attention to himself. He listened as her footfalls came close to the table, drew away and then doubled back. Inside he was willing her not to come talk to him, really not in the mood to talk to anyone since he was busy being very frustrated at his pencil and the drawing that really wasn’t working with him. He glared down at the piece of paper, willing the scramble of lines to become something fantastic looking. Like a burning building or a deep dark hole of some sort with a mystery surrounding it’s features. It was annoying to just look down at his paper and see the elementary element to it, his art teacher would think that he just asked a random kid on the street to draw it for him. Christian sighed and almost jumped out of his skin as he looked up straight into the eyes of the girl that had been looking at him when she had first walked in. He gave a small yelp, almost falling out of his chair as he grabbed onto the table for support. He had to admit he thought the girl was really creepy for appearing almost out of nowhere like that. The giggle made him look at her with wide eyes, fear flashing through them, his brain flying to the conclusion that she was going to hurt him. Her words almost slurred together and Christian had a difficult time sorting out the individual words and deciphering what they meant. He probably looked like an idiot, sitting there and staring at her with his mouth slightly open as he tried to understand her inhumanly fast speech. “It’s supposed to be something abstract.” He replied in answer to her first inquiry. “I have no idea where Mr. Knight is. Sorry.” His words were short and choppy, adding on an awkward tone with them. After that he totally gave up on trying to figure out what she had said. Instead he just nodded and gave the tiniest of smiles, maybe that would encourage her to go fine Mr. Knight. “I’m Christian.” The blonde replied bluntly, not wanting to make it seem like he wanted to talk to her. After all he was busy and as long as she kept speaking in that immensely fast language of hers, Christian would basically just be sitting there staring at her the whole conversation. There really wasn’t any point to it.

The blonde males jumpy reaction to her presence caused Charlie to startle, though she half expected that sort of reaction from him. Even though she wasn’t the most quiet person in the world, Charlie could, at times, execute epic ninja skills and just walk up to a person. It was like one second she wasn’t there, the next BAM there she was, Charlie North right in your face, well as long as you were sitting down she could potentially be in your face. Aside from Artemis, every single one of her friends were taller than her by several inches, Nate included which wasn’t the easiest feat for him to do. Grabbing a hold of the male’s arm, hoping that maybe she could help him from teetering right off of his chair, Charlie knew the second her tiny hands wrapped around his bicep that there was no way she would be able to keep him steady. If he was going down, she was down on the floor right with him. Grateful when the male didn’t fall to the floor, Charlie let go of his arm and smiled at him. ”Well, that was a close call. I’m totally sorry if I scared you. I know I can kinda sneak up on people sometimes. I promise most of the time you’ll totally hear or see me coming. I mean it’s way hard to miss me with the neon pink.” Charlie giggled, pointing to the neon dye in her hair. She knew that she stood out in the sea of students at Jackson, most of them just your typical teenagers who wanted nothing more than to be the next best thing on the cover of teen vogue or some magazine like that, but Charlie was in her own world, did her own thing, and looked the way she wanted to from her hair dye to her Betsey Johnson dresses and her combat boots.
The look on the male’s face was priceless, a look Charlie had seen time and time again when she first met people. She knew it all too well, he was trying to decipher and process everything she had spewed at him. Charlie would try and calm herself down, but she was far too hyper and knew that it was probably a mute point. Mute, that was funny. It was very rare that she was ever mute, she more than likely even spoke in her sleep though she wasn’t totally sure. Neither Braeydon or Ben ever said anything about it and they were the ones who spent the most time with her when she slept, though that was even rare. Charlie had no idea how to calm down, how to relax. She was the girl who just kept going sort of like the energizer bunny. Hearing him say it was supposed to be something abstract, Charlie’s head tilted more looking at it. She wasn’t quite sure what it was supposed to be, but abstract could be anything, so whatever it was it was amazing. ”Okay, well it’s totally awesome. I’m so not into art, well at least drawing art.” Hopping up onto the desk, Charlie sat down, her legs and feet dangling nowhere near the floor, swinging back and forth like a child on a swing. A laugh escaped her lips hearing Mr. Knight out loud. That was just hilarious to think of Kade anything other than, well Kade. He was engaged to one of her best friends in the entire world and even though she wasn’t as close to Kade as she was to Draven, Charlie was certainly grateful for him being in her friends life. He made Draven so happy and kept him stable, something that was so foreign to him.
Realizing that she spaced out for a second, Charlie shook her head and rolled her eyes at her own silliness. ”Sorry I think I totally just spaced. No worries though about not knowing where Mr. Knight is.” Charlie giggled. She couldn’t quite help herself, it just sounded so funny out loud. ”I’m sure he’ll pop up eventually, it’s not like he can totally hide forever, right? So, are you new to Jackson? I mean I’ve never seen you before, but it’s a big school so it’s not like I’m totally saying that you just blend in and aren’t noticeable, just that I’ve never seen you. I’ve been here all four years, so I guess it would be sorta obvious that I’m a senior if I’ve been here all four years, right? Are you a senior too?” Charlie hated to assume anything, but he didn’t look quite like an underclassmen, maybe a junior though if not a senior like she was. Her blue eyes staring at the male, Christian, Charlie couldn’t help but notice that maybe she was making him slightly uncomfortable, which again wouldn’t be a first. Her demeanor did that to people, especially when she first met them, but most of the time they grew to either tolerate her or adore her. Charlie’s intentions were always good, she was sweet, just loud and over the top. She didn’t really have a mute button or a dial that could turn the volume down or even a slow down button and when she tried, well most of the time her pent up energy seemed to explode and make her ten times worse if that was even imaginable. At least she had enough control over herself not to invade his personal space, though give her time because Charlie was notorious for that sort of thing. ”It’s really nice to meet you Christian. And I totally apologize if I’m making you feel uncomfortable. I don’t mean it, I’m just a little hyper and a bit, well loud and I talk fast and I know it but I can’t really seem to help myself, it just sorta happens when I’m excited. Like when I meet new people, you know, I just love it, it’s the best.” Charlie smiled, tucking her hands underneath her legs, still swinging her legs back and forth like a little kid. She was never quite sure how she could intimidate people, especially with her size, nothing about that screamed intimidating in her mind.

Christian noticed that as he jumped, the girl did also. Did she really think that he had seen her standing there looking slightly creepy? He didn’t have that good of peripheral vision, though he doubted anyone did. The blonde male almost burst out laughing as he realized that she was still standing, having thought she had dropped to her knees. Nope. She was just that short. That fact just made Christian die a little inside from holding back his laughter. Though hiding his emotions was definitely one of his many specialities, after all he had to hide every bit of pain that he felt from Pagan when they were back at the mansion. He couldn’t let her see how broken he really was inside, he had to show her that he still held hope in his heart.. when in actuality he had given up before she did. When the girl grabbed hold of his arm, his heart nearly stopped, thinking that she was going to hurt him in some way. He jerked it away quickly without thinking and blinked in surprise as he stared down at his arm as if it had it’s own mind. “I-I’m sorry.” Apologized quickly, stumbling over his words as he tried to get their meaning out as fast as he could. “It’s fine, not your fault. I wasn’t looking around me I guess..” His voice trailed off as he stared down at his paper, wondering why she was even wasting her time with talking to him. He was nothing special, he was a nobody that everyone hated. Christian’s blue gaze followed the girls pointing finger, noticing the bright pink hair dye and nodding in agreement. That was definitely something that stood out about her, after of course her boisterous personality.
He could tell that she was someone who had gotten the blank stare millions of times before. It was especially hard for Christian to understand what she was saying because he hadn’t really been listening to her in the first place. He felt slightly guilty and rude for not paying attention, but everyone zoned out once in a while. His sky blue gaze watched as she tilted her head at the picture for a moment at his answer. A crooked smile crossed his face as she told him she thought it was awesome, it was definitely the opposite of awesome though he was appreciative of her compliment. “Thanks. But it’s really not.” He thought it looked like a piece of shit. It was basically just lines, overlapping and looking like nothing at all. “It’s supposed to look like a building of some sort, though it doesn’t look anything remotely like something that anyone would find on this earth.” He blinked in surprised down at the table, surprised that his sentence was so long. Maybe it was because he wasn’t actually looking at her and the statement could be classified as Christian talking to himself, though he knew she would reply. “I’m not into art either. As you can probably tell.” He frowned down at the ugly ass picture, wishing he had the talent and patience to do something that would at least get him maybe a B-. Christian glanced up at the girl as she laughed, wondering what she found to be so entertaining. Hopefully she wasn’t laughing at him or his painting, he tended to get very touchy about people making fun of him.
The words that tumbled out of her mouth next were much easier to understand. Maybe it was the fact that Christian was now prepared for her fast speech and deciphered it much more quickly that time. “No worries.” He replied bluntly, feeling like he could give some type of closure to her comment about spacing out. After all it was an apology and he didn’t want to be rude by leaving her hanging. Christian blinked once again as she giggled after saying Mr. Knight’s name. Did she think his name was funny? The blonde decided to just drop the topic and stop thinking about it, he would probably never understand and he didn’t want to be curious and ask her about it. Christian shrugged, “He could.” Lame attempt at a joke, the second he stopped talking he grimaced at himself, wondering what on earth had gotten into him. She probably thought he was a mental case, though he didn’t care at least she was making an effort on talking to him. Or rather, talking at him, since Christian really wasn’t doing a lot of the talking in the conversation. “I got here two months ago. I guess you could classify that as new. And yes. I’m a senior.” He nodded, picking up his newly sharpened pencil once more, retracing lines from his drawing just for something to do with his hands. He chuckled slightly as she apologized for making him feel uncomfortable, apparently his ability to hide his emotions was wearing off over the years. “It’s nice to meet you too. I’m not much of a people person.. though I’m sure that you can tell.” He let out a small sigh before continuing, “Meeting new people is.. nice I guess.” Christian bit his lip, knowing that was a total lie. He hated meeting new people, just the fact of meeting someone and having to make a first impression made him uncomfortable. The blonde male was never the one to approach someone and start a conversation. He just sat in the back, always in the back and whenever someone came up to him he was blunt and awkward and that made them go away very quickly. The people that stayed and talked to him despite the fact that he sucked at making friends made him feel so much better about himself.

To say that she was stunned by the fact that the male had jerked his arm away from her so definitively would have been an understatement. Even Toby had never tried so hard to get away from her when she had hugged him, he more just fell to pieces and maybe flailed a little, but to try and break free with such force confused and scared Charlie a bit. Even though she knew that she was a big space invader and she had a habit of just hugging people when she was excited, all she had been trying to do was help him from falling, something so totally simple that she couldn’t quite grasp his reaction. Add in the fact that Charlie was at least half his size, well it just made no sense. When she heard him apologize, the stunned look on her face quickly turned into a smile. One thing the female hated to do was judge people. First impressions were not always correct. If that had been the case, Charlie probably wouldn’t have had most of her friends on both ends. She was always over the top and well her friends were just, themselves. Whatever their flaws were was what she loved most about them because it made them unique and she was all about that, being yourself no matter what. In her eyes everyone had good and bad qualities, she wasn’t afraid of weeding through the bad ones to find the good. ”No apologies silly, I just grabbed at you. I’m sure you were just totally caught off guard. I’ll keep it in mind next time you go to stumble off a chair…to do it again.” Charlie giggled. She knew good and well that if he fell her reaction would be the same over and over even if she knew for some reason he didn’t like it. If she had time to think about her reactions then she had a better chance of not doing what she knew would bother people, but on pure instinct, well she was Charlie. ”Well of course you weren’t looking around, you’re drawing and then here I come with my fantabulous ninja skills it’s like BOO I’m right there totally in your face.” Charlie shrugged playfully. Sometimes she just amused herself, even if she wasn’t amusing the other people around her. The girl was odd.
Seeing a smile on his face warmed Charlie’s heart. There was always something about seeing people smile that just made her feel good. Maybe it was her incessant need to please people and always want them to be happy. Of course she knew that life wasn’t always rainbows and butterflies, hell her life wasn’t that way, but it didn’t mean she didn’t want it to be that way. Her choices in life were slowly coming back to bit her in the ass, but she wasn’t about to change a single decision she’d made. Charlie stood by all of her choices whether they were wrong or right because at this point in her life she was happier than she had ever been, at least as a whole. ”You’re welcome.” Charlie considered saying something again about his drawing being awesome and he shouldn’t be so hard on himself, but that would make her hypocritical. When it came to writing music, Charlie was her biggest critic and tore her work up all the time. A huge smile fell on her lips as she heard him say that it didn’t look like anything on this earth. ”Now see that’s what makes it so awesome. I mean what’s better than making something that’s so out of this world? That is what will make this drawing totally flawless when you’re done with it. Doing things inside the box is so boring, don’t you think?” Charlie was the poster child for outside the box. Nothing about her screamed social norm and she was more than okay with that. ”Then how come you’re taking the class?” She hoped that her simple question wasn’t being completely intrusive, but it made no sense to her to take a class you didn’t like, which was part of the reason she wasn’t enrolling in college for the fall.
Her head tilted slightly when Christian said that Kade could hide forever. The thought alone made her somewhat nervous knowing full well that it would send Draven into a downward spiral that would more than likely end in his death. Charlie knew better perhaps anyone that Kade was the glue that was holding her friend together. She just hoped that in time being with him would made Draven stronger and able to stand on his own two feet without him, god forbid it ever came down to that. ”Let’s hope he only hides during class and totally gives you like no homework ever.” Charlie didn’t want to put Kade’s business out on blast, it wasn’t her place to tell the entire school that he was engaged to Draven, it wasn’t their business. ”Two months ago would probably still classify you as new but not totally new. How are you liking it so far? I mean are the other students being cool or are they totally being like cliquey and obnoxious?” Charlie knew first hand just how cliquey they could be, especially the rich kids. It made her laugh because if they had any idea that her family was probably wealthier than theirs they would probably have a hyper fit and die. She wasn’t your typical rich kid on the inside or the outside. It suddenly dawned on Charlie that Christian said he was a senior. Why hadn’t she seen him before today? They had to have classes together. ”Do we have classes together? I would feel like a total jerk if we do and I’ve never said anything to you until today. I mean I’m like always late for them, like every class every day, but if we do I’m so sorry for not saying anything before.” Looking up in the air, pondering the fact that he wasn’t much of a people person, Charlie knew that was probably his subtle hint telling her to back off, but she couldn’t. There was already something about him that intrigued her. ”It’s okay, we all have our day.” She looked into his eyes and smiled. ”You’ll totally get used to me sweatpea, I mean I’m like way over the top, I know that and can definitely admit that about myself but I swear that I’m harmless and sweet. You’ll see, just give it time.” Charlie laughed, gently touching his arm with her fingers. At least she wasn’t hugging him, yet.

Blue gaze flickered up, his chest immediately blossoming with guilt that he had been so rude to the poor girl. After all she just wanted to say hello and maybe make friends with him and here he was being so mean. He was such a screw-up, there was no way this girl would stay to become friends with him. She was probably rethinking her decision about coming over there to talk to him anyway. Everyone did. They came other, thinking he was just going to be a nice shy guy when all of a sudden he screwed up and they ran off, scared of him. That’s the way it always went. That was why Christian never tried to make friends anymore, not that he had in the first place. “S-sorry.” He apologized again, not wanting to see the girl so surprised at him. Plus Christian was a big guy and he could probably take down a lot of people because of his size and strength. Of course whenever a group of boys decided that they wanted to pick on him, Christian just sat there and took the beating. They would stop eventually, and even if they killed him no one would care. Except Pagan. Just the thought of her name made his heart start beating twice its normal speed. She was the only one in the whole wide world that cared about him, and he loved that girl more than anything in his life. He would do anything for her, and he didn’t know the feeling but he had fallen in love. His gaze flickered up once more, surprised to find a smile on the girls face once more. He was surprised she was still even there, most people just upped and left after he jerked or spazzed at them in some way. One of his cheeks twitched as she mentioned she would keep in in mind not to try to save him when he was about to fall off a chair. “Thanks.” He was totally taken aback by her reaction, her giggling, her words, they all were like a different language to him. Christian’s shoulders bounced as her hyperactive personality started to get to him, settling down slightly and relaxing his tension just a little bit. The girl seemed nice enough, though looks could always be misleading. Which was why Christian never trusted anyone. “Yeah.. those fantabulous ninja skills..”
He let his voice trail off, not really knowing what to say to her. He definitely wasn’t a talker like she was though he wouldn’t be surprised if she just went on and on. He imagined he could just sit there for a whole day while she went on and on as if she were running on endless energy. A random thought flashed through his mind, wondering if she ever slept or just charged herself, the thought made him smile again. Christian appreciated the fact that the girl didn’t give him false pretenses, liking that she didn’t try to sell him that his drawing was amazing and that he shouldn’t curse it so. He appreciated people that didn’t just tell you what you wanted to hear, but gave you the truth, or withheld it as not to hurt your feelings. Christian knew the drawing was a piece of shit and he would have dropped the class happily if he could have, but he felt this weird need to be able to sketch an apple or something. As she spoke once more, he listened carefully to her words trying to figure out why she was still trying to interact with him and wondering if she was dared to talk to him? Had someone put her up to this mission? Christian wouldn’t put it past them, everyone was a bitch to him and it was very rare that he found someone that would actually take the time to get to know him and listen to his silence and take his awkwardness. “Really?” His voice raised slightly, taking on a hopeful tone, though still not really believing her words. “Yeah, inside the box isn’t interesting at all.” He nodded, agreeing with her question and freezing up as she asked why he was taking the class. “Uhhh.. I don’t really know.. Maybe I wanted to see if I had any skills in this department.” His answer rushed out of his mouth, trying to get the attention off of him.
“Obviously I don’t.” He stated bluntly, not giving himself any slack. Christian would always be hard on himself, giving himself the hard side of life rather than keeping his spirits up and believing in himself. Her words had him nodding once again, no homework would be nice. After all this drawing was his homework and hopefully Mr. Knight wouldn’t fail him horribly for it. After all, Christian had put in a lot of time and effort into it, even if it only seemed like a scribble. “I’m liking the no homework idea.” He mumbled, wishing that homework would just die in a hole. It took up too much of his time when he would be doing other things. Not that he did anything else other than sit around in his dorm and rarely go outside for exercise. He shrugged in answer to her question. Did he like it here? No. Definitely not. He hated the way that everyone gathered into cliques and how he automatically was a freak and outsider. He hated the way that he was taunted when he passed people in the hall. “Yeah it’s not so bad.” Though of course he would never let on the true emotion that he was feeling. Christian had mastered the art of hiding what he was feeling since he had to so much back when he was at the mansion. He smiled as she almost seemed to read his thoughts about the obnoxious and cliquey kids. “It’s not awful.” He stated, though his mind was screaming at him to tell the girl the truth. He couldn’t. Christian couldn’t trust anyone, not even himself. He took a little breath as she started up again, asking questions and over-riding herself. “I don’t think so.. I don’t really notice who’s in my class and who isn’t.” This whole conversation he was having with the girl he had been hunched over his drawing, his pencil was loose in his hand and he was staring down at the paper as if it had grown wings. Feeling slightly rude, he turned towards her, keeping his bad posture but meeting her gaze once in a while. He didn’t think he could handle looking at her face for more than a minute. It wasn’t that she was ugly, he just couldn’t take the pressure that came along with it. Surprised flitted across his face as she openly acknowledged the fact she knew that he wanted her to go away. His pet name also surprised her, it made him feel wanted and important even though he knew that wasn’t true at all. “Harmless and sweet is good.” He commented, giving her a little encouraging smile. Maybe.. he could give her a little chance?

Charlie tried to study the male, read his facial expressions to see if there was any indication of what was going on in his mind. While she wasn’t the best mind reader, one thing she did possess was empathy especially with her friends. What they felt, she felt. The longer her blue eyes studied the male’s face the more Charlie realized that she couldn’t come up with a thing. He seemed so complex, so confused, so conflicted about something but obviously she didn’t know him from the next stranger and he could have been perfectly fine. Charlie read into things too much, she overdramatized them and overanalyzed things to death. Hearing him apologize again, a soft smile formed on her lips, her hand reaching out and touching his shoulder gently. ”No silly, please don’t be sorry. It’s a normal reaction for someone to jerk away when they’re scared like that.” Charlie wasn’t totally sure that it was a normal reaction, she actually felt like it was way overboard, but she didn’t want the boy to feel any worse than he clearly already was feeling. She liked seeing him smile, it was nice. Charlie wasn’t totally convinced it was an honest smile but she fully appreciated his effort. For that he would get an a plus. Again she tried to study his facial expressions but Charlie didn’t know early enough about him to even begin to draw a conclusion, not that she liked to draw them to begin with. That was almost along the lines of judging someone, which was totally unfair. To assume the boy was thinking or feeling any which way, well Charlie would almost rather come right out and be even more intrusive and ask him what was on his mind. A laugh escaped her lips. ”Definitely some of the best around.” Charlie shook her head at her own silliness. Of course she didn’t believe she was a ninja and usually she was way too loud to every sneak up on anyone. People usually heard her or saw her from a mile away. Nothing about Charlie was quiet.
Her head tilted slightly with confusion as she rambled on and on. The smirk that had formed on his lips didn’t quite fit in at that moment, but who knows, maybe she had said something funny. There were times when Charlie spoke so quickly that even she had a hard time keeping up with herself and it could take a bit of time before she processed what she was saying. ”Mylanta, yes really. That’s what makes it so awesome. If everything was supposed to be the same then I wouldn’t even exist. I mean look at me, do I look like I fit into societal norms or inside any politically correct box? At least on the outside anyway.” Charlie smiled and shrugged. On the outside she was so far from what society said she should look like and she definitely always thought outside the box, but Charlie was about as straight edge as they came. She didn’t drink or do drugs and she tried to do the right thing and treat people fairly and with respect. Charlie’s head nodded with agreement. She understood trying things to see if she was any good at it. ”That totally makes sense. Gotta try it, right?” No one would ever achieved their fullest potential without trying it.
A frown formed on Charlie’s face when she heard the male say that he had no talent. Art in any form was so abstract and could be anything. Nothing was just black or white, striped or polka dotted, art was a mishmash of colors, shapes, designs and everything else in between. A song that Charlie wrote could sound amazing to her, but to someone else it could be absolute garbage but that didn’t mean she wasn’t a talented writer. ”Don’t be so hard on yourself. Art is all a matter of opinion and it’s always changing, so don’t give up on it. It may just be you’re thing and you haven’t totally developed the talent yet.” Charlie had always written songs about things she knew. Her first song was about rainbows and butterflies because at eight that was all she knew. Now her songs were far deeper, about life and love, hurt, whatever she had experienced. She smiled. ”I know right? Homework is so annoying sometimes. I guess that’s why I don’t always do it.” The closer she got to graduation the more Charlie seemed to slack off in some of her classes. Charlie wondered exactly how truthful the male was being about school. She knew all too well how awful some of the other students could be, how cruel they were. When Mr. X had put out a blog, her best friend Braeydon had paid the price and found himself at the brute end of beatings simply for being with Dylan. ”Well that’s good. I know how the other students can be which really does suck sometimes. They’re not always the nicest.” Charlie offered the male a smile. She didn’t want to call him out on it, but she almost knew better.
A sigh of relief left her lips as she heard Christian say that he didn’t think they were in any of the same classes. She knew there was a big possibility that they were, but she didn’t feel as bad if he hadn’t noticed her either. ”Well, if we do I’d be the girl that is forever late to class. I can never manage to get to class on time or get up on time or do anything on time.” She giggled. Charlie had been late since the day she was born, she was even late for that going a week past the date that she was due. Her blue eyes just stared at Christian, watching him as he stared down at his drawing. She had seen that sort of reaction before in Toby and in Hayden, the inability to keep your eyes on someone for more than a few moments. Charlie hated to jump to conclusions but this all had a familiar ring to it. When his voice hit her ears, the female immediately smiled softly. ”The worst you’ll get from me is my space invading. I’m a big space invader and I like to hug and snuggle, but I swear you’ll get used to it sweatpea. It’s not that bad, it just takes getting used to is all.” There was something about Christian that she liked, something drawing her in. Charlie couldn’t quite put her finger on it quite yet but she had every intention of figuring it out.

His cheeks burned as his senses told him that she was staring at him. Not wanting to make eye contact, he kept quiet and kept his eyes down on his paper, wondering if she would get angry at him if he started to work on his fail masterpiece once again. After all he had to get it done, but she was really starting to interest him by staying near him this long. No one had ever stayed to talk to him for as long as she had. Though it was true they had probably been talking for around ten minutes; well Charlie had, Christian was trying to stay as quiet as he could. Usually the person trying to draw him away from his thoughts and sadness just got unresponsive shoulders and one word answers. When Charlie talked, Christian couldn’t hold his thoughts back or what he wanted to say. He felt bad for staying silent, but he definitely wasn’t going to just start talking. The girl made him feel slightly under pressure, but not in a bad way. In a comforting way, she seemed to be patient with him, knowing something about him that even he didn’t but that couldn’t be possible. Christian blinked as the girl tried to make excuses up for him, no one would ever jerk away like that, not even someone who was scared and someone grabbing his arm should definitely not make him feel like he should jerk away. But it did. “Normal?” He asked, skepticism coating his tone clearly. Her laugh took him off guard, he really hadn’t thought his comment was funny but at least he had tried. Laughing always made the atmosphere of a conversation so much lighter and her laugh made him relax slightly. “I’ll bet.” He commented, his own smile sounding in his words. It was hard to believe that that girl was a ninja, she seemed to be one of those loud people. Not in an obnoxious way, but in that hyper, bubbly way. That way that would usually bother Christian and have him leaving the room faster than the other person thought possible, but she was different.
It was hard to pin-point exactly what was keeping him staying but he knew he couldn’t leave the girl alone here now. He was starting to just let himself go. Christian was also really starting to believe that she was running on a battery. No one in the would could have their brain work that fast, could they? He nodded slowly as his brain processed what she was saying very slowly. Charlie seemed the type of girl to say one thing then have her idea remind her of something else and just go off on a tangent of the other topic. She was definitely someone that Christian had to work in order to understand her at all. He gave a small crooked smile as she asked if she looked like she fit anywhere, his hazel eyes flickering up to her face and then quickly back down to his drawing. “You’re very colorful?” His tone rising as if he was asking a question, not wanting to get the answer wrong. He had to admit that he wouldn’t be surprised if she didn’t fit in, her hair was bright pink and her personality seemed more hyper than even the road runner. He raised his eyebrow at his drawing, knowing that this was definitely not his calling though it had been worth a try. Christian dipped his head swiftly agreeing with her question, “Definitely. Though I’m suggesting to myself I should stay away from this class.” Maybe he would be more into the athletic teams, though he would never join one because of his fear of attention.
Christian found that he liked to shoot hoops in his free time, but he rarely had any basketball courts to himself and he definitely wasn’t risking having someone see him. Because of all his free time, he had become skilled at the game, able to handle the ball carefully with his large hands. Her voice picked up his thoughts again as she tried to get him to be less hard on himself, but it was always one of those things he couldn’t help. He placed his elbow on the desk and placed his chin in the palm of his hand. “Even though I’ve been taking this course for two years now?” A small smile appeared on his face, wondering just how long it would take to break open his talent for visual art. Though he didn’t have any hope left for this course, already having plans to drop it the next semester and do something else. The only art he was actually good at was drumming, he had been drumming ever since he could remember and that was something that he absolutely adored doing. Christian’s eyebrow raised as she mentioned she didn’t always do her homework. “Really? Do you ever get into trouble?” The blonde male would never try to skip out on something like that, being terrified of getting into trouble. He nodded as she mentioned it was good people weren’t harassing him, even though he knew he had just lied to her. It was surprising how quickly the guilt moved through his body, feeling horrible for not telling Charlie the truth but it was something that he couldn’t even really get out to himself. There was no way he was going to be able to tell a complete stranger about it. His gaze became more pointed, almost turning into a glare as she kept going. She wouldn’t be able to see his face though, his palm being placed on his cheek almost so that he was half-way turned away from her. Did she already know about the beatings the other students put on him? She couldn’t. Unless someone else had told her.
Again he felt guilty for so obviously ignoring her last sentence that he switched hands so that he was facing her even more than he had been before. He blinked, wondering if she knew that he really didn’t pay attention to any of the children, just what was on the board and what the teacher was saying. “Really? I usually sit in the back...” Contemplating whether or not to add an alone at the end he figured that he would be sounding pitiful so he just cut himself off. Again, he felt Charlie’s gaze burning into his face and he shifted slightly, uncomfortable with how much she seemed to be figuring out just by looking at his face. Usually he was a pro at hiding his emotions, but with Charlie she seemed to know how to figure out exactly what was wrong with a person. His gaze flickered up as she spoke about her space invading, that would definitely take about a year to get used to. “I’ll get used to it...” He echoed her words, hoping that he would get used to it sooner than later. Christian absolutely hated himself whenever he flinched away from someone that just meant well.

If there was one thing that Charlie knew how to do, it was be the perfect friend. Perfect she wasn’t, but when it came to knowing what her friends needed it seemed to be a gift for her. Of course she wasn’t right one hundred percent of the time, she did falter when her own emotions got in the way, but under normal circumstances she just knew what her friends needed from her. Even though she had just met Christian, he reminded her so much of Toby in his response, or lack thereof. Christian was so quiet, far beyond what Charlie knew to be the normal level of introversion but there was something about the male that intrigued her, something in him that just wouldn’t allow her to give up and walk away. Charlie generally didn’t give up, she didn’t know how to or maybe it was that she was so afraid of failing that she just had to keep going no matter what the situation was. Something inside her was telling her that Christian needed a friend, someone like Charlie who would know when to talk, when to listen and when to just sit in silence with him. She could definitely be that person. Her head tilted slightly as he spoke. ”Yes. For you it’s normal. It doesn’t mean it’s totally defined by society as normal, but it’s what works for you so in regards to you, yes sweatpea, it’s normal.” Charlie smiled softly at the male, just taking a moment to look at him. He looked like such a teddy bear that she had to fight the urge to lunge at him and hug him. He needed a hug but Charlie wasn’t all that convinced he’d be receptive of the random hug especially after the way he reacted when she grabbed his arm trying to help him from not falling. Charlie appreciated the fact that Christian was trying to humor her. There was no way she was ninja at all and she was okay with that. ”Okay, I’m not really ninja at all, but I’m sure you probably already figured that out. I’m sorta on the loud, in your face side of it all but hey, it’s me and I’m okay with that. I just take some getting used to, but I promise you that it will all get easier to deal with and in no time I won’t even phase you.” Charlie giggled mostly at herself. Something told her it that it might take Christian a bit longer to warm up to her than most people.
Growing up in Indiana, Charlie learned very early in life that she just didn’t belong there, her spirit was way too loud and way too free. If she had wings they would most certainly be a plethora of colors, everyone under the rainbow and maybe some made up ones too. The older she got, the ‘stranger’ she began to look, at least that was how her parents defined it. Her once blonde locks started changing to multiple colors, some natural some definitely off the charts. Her clothing went from your typical rich girl clothing to the Betsey Johnson nightmare that everyone looked at on a daily basis. Almost everything she owned was loud, neon, frilly, poofy and just plain out there but she loved it. Charlie stopped wearing pants and since she entered high school had only worn dresses usually with combat boots. It was her thing. She loved it though. She nodded her head with a large smile on her lips. ”I am, aren’t I? I can’t help it, I love color. I mean think about it. The world isn’t black and white with a mix of gray, it’s just a bunch of beautiful colors and I love them all. I guess what you see is a reflection of who I am on the inside.” At least most of the time. There was a part of Charlie that almost no one ever saw except maybe a few of her closest friends and of course Ben. Charlie was definitely a mess but she tried her best to keep it together on the outside. Lately it hadn’t been easy with everything going on around her but so far she’d managed to hold it all together pretty well. Her shoulders lifted up and down in a shrug at Christian’s words. ”Of course only you can decide if you’re meant for art but don’t give up on it so easily. You may just surprise yourself.” She smiled at Christian hoping that he wouldn’t be so hard on himself, but she knew better. Still she couldn’t help but try.
Her small feet swung back and forth, dangling from the desk Charlie still sat upon. Her blue eyes scanned the room for a quick second just in case Kade had entered back into the room. She wasn’t afraid of getting in trouble or getting Christian into trouble, she just was trying to make sure she remembered to get Toby’s homework. Forgetful, that was Charlie. Her brain worked at warp speed and if she didn’t accomplish a thought while it was in her head she could kiss whatever it was goodbye. A smirk formed on her lips as she looked back down at Christian. It seemed as though he was getting a bit more comfortable at least in demeanor which was a good sign. ”Sure, why not? Or like what about the other arts? Do you like music? I totally love music, I mean that’s what I do. Not totally for a living yet but I’ve been writing since I was like eight and I’ve been playing guitar since I was five and the piano since I was seven and yeah now I work down at Music Central producing after school and during the day on the weekends.” Charlie wasn’t certain of it, but she was considering Draven’s offer to buy half of the studio and co-own it with him once she graduated. She couldn’t help but giggle at Christian’s question. ”Sure I guess I do sometimes, but I mean the teachers have gotten so used to it by now that I think they’ve just given up. Besides, I get good grades and aside from being late to class like all the time I don’t cause problems and I do help out when I can, so I guess most of the let it slide.” It helped that she was very close with some of her teachers and had known them on a personal level for years. Immediately Ben popped into her mind causing a slight frown to form on her face. It was so hard to think about what was going on with Ben and not be upset even though he’d told her over and over again that things weren’t her fault. How could it not be? She knew better, she knew that someone would eventually find out about them and it would only be a matter of time before Ben lost his teaching job. Love certainly wasn’t easy but she loved Ben so much that it didn’t matter how hard things got, she wanted to be by his side forever.
She understood sitting in the back of the class. Hell if she had arrived to class on time she probably would have joined him. While Charlie wasn’t a huge trouble maker she definitely didn’t care all that much about school and would have preferred to sit in the back of her classes just writing her music. That was one of the reasons she was held back in the fourth grade. Her teacher was convinced that she wasn’t smart enough to move onto the fifth grade but that wasn’t it at all, she just had better things to do at least in her own mind. ”There’s nothing wrong with sitting in the back of the class. I’d be joining you if I ever made it on time.” Truth be told if it was up to Charlie she wouldn’t attend another class for the rest of the year if she knew she could still graduate. She was done with school, done with the drama and bullshit Jackson was putting her through. Even if she didn’t know what her future held as long as it didn’t involve going to JHS anymore then Charlie was a happy girl. A small squeak escaped from her lips, her hands clapping in excitement as she heard Christian say he’d get used to it. ”I promise it totally won’t be as hard as it seems.” Without even thinking, Charlie leaned towards the male, wrapping her arms around his large frame, squeezing Christian like a big teddy bear.
