After receiving Ava’s text which confirmed that she was indeed busy Kyle found himself alone with nothing to do on a Saturday. After an hour of deliberating his options whilst sitting on the coach in the living room he decided he was going to hit the town alone and just walk around for a bit, it wasn’t exactly a brilliant plan, but since he didn’t have that many friends anymore it was the best option he could think of, if Ava had plans Merrick probably did too and he wasn’t going to waste his time just to get turned down again. The weather outside was gloomy, grey clouds covered the sky, rain was inevitable and there wasn’t many people outside, most of them opted for a night in, or were already save and warm inside a club or restaurant. Before leaving the house Kyle went upstairs, put on his black trench coat, grabbed his umbrella and said good bye to his mom and dad who were both in their room, each reading a different book with the look of contentment on their faces. Kyle’s mom didn’t really ask a lot of questions, she knew, or at least thought that Kyle wasn’t the type of young man to go out and do something stupid, Kyle has always been a very responsible person and never gave them a reason not to trust him.
Instead of calling a cab, Kyle walked all the way to town at a steady pace, he loved being outdoors, even with the weather as crappy as it was today. He thought of Ava all the way to town, wondering what she was up to, hoping whatever it was that she was doing was making her feel better than she did the last time he saw her. He assumed she was out with one of her friends, since she wasn’t the one who was in a coma for a year she was bound to have at least a few.
The town’s streets were strangely deserted for a Saturday and every person who was outside clearly knew their destination and tried getting there as soon as possible, unlike Kyle who had no idea where he was going and was in no hurry. He passed a number of restaurants, coffee shops and other places filled with people, but he entered none of them, he wasn’t up for large crowds of people just yet, especially not alone, he could just imagine how pathetic he would look sitting alone in a restaurant.
It was in front of one of these busy places Ava caught Kyle’s eye, he smiled but that smile soon faded when a guy came up to her and took her hand. His heart sank to his feet when he saw this and he felt his blood boil Calm down Kyle, keep moving… he said trying to prevent himself from doing something stupid, which he ended up not doing, when Ava’s eyes caught him, Kyle knew he couldn’t pretend that he didn’t see her, so he lifted his hand and gave her a small wave before rounding the corner and breaking out into a sprint, wanting to get away from there as soon as he could, he kept running and running, letting out his anger and sadness, he wasn’t even sure where he was by the time he stopped running and only then realized that he had dropped his umbrella somewhere, since it was no longer in his hand.
With a single tear rolling down his cheek, Kyle looked around for shelter, somewhere he could sit down and catch his breath and calm his mind. He seemed to be in a run-down part of town, everything around him was old and warn and in dire need of a fresh paint job. His eyes caught the sign of a small rundown bar, ”Perfect…” he said as he made his way across the road, deciding that he would get so wasted that the image of Ava and whoever that guy with her was which was burnt into his mind would disappear and hopefully he would forget all about it in the morning too. He didn’t think about getting home, didn’t bother texting his mother, he just walked inside the bar and sat down at one of the many open chairs at the bar. ”What’s the strongest thing you’ve got?” he asked the barman as he took a few hundred notes out of his wallet which he took out of the pocket of his trench coat before he sat down, not even thinking about the fact that he was underage. The barman gave one look at Kyle’s money and smiled ”House brand tequila kid… Will help you get rid of those bad memories.” the barman said, clearly not phased about Kyle’s age and clearly Kyle wasn’t the first person to go in there with the hope to forget. ”Well pour me some and keep ‘em coming then.” Kyle said, the hurt and anger he felt obvious by the tone of his voice, the bartender complied and poured Kyle a shot and also gave him a beer ”You’ll need something to wash that down with, nasty tasting stuff that is.”

Mid-day was a very unusual time for a date but Ava preferred it when going to see a movie. Evening showings on the weekend tended to just be a room filled with kids who talked through the entire thing or kicked you in the back of the head for their own amusement, it drove her insane. Not that it mattered anyways, Eli had to work the overnight shift and would have to drop her off just after they had dinner. For now though she was content to do a little window shopping while they waited for their seat to open up at the restaurant he had picked out for them.
Ava’s eyes darted quite quickly to a dress in the shop window across the street and managed to drag Eli with her as she darted between traffic across the street to stop in front and admire it. He leaned in telling her he would be back and she watched him disappear into a store a few doors down while she stood there waiting. She had pondered going inside and getting the dress, but kept going back and forth until he reappeared and took her hand informing her it was five minutes til dinner. With one more quick look inside the window she turned to follow him her eyes roaming the small groups of people along the street. It didn’t take her long to spot him standing there, Kyle alone on the corner just up the street. The night that she had intended on enjoying and tried her hardest to leave him out of was now suddenly shattered as her smile faded into something of confusion seeing him there waving at her from afar. The look on his face wasn’t a greeting though, it was more like a goodbye and as they entered the restaurant she saw him walk off in the other direction and he was gone.
Dinner went pretty well considering the interruption of thoughts Kyle had been to her. Ava had picked an amazing pasta and salad, Eli chose a steak and shrimp platter. The restaurant itself was amazing with its old Italian feel and more than attentive staff. It couldn’t have gone better. They exited through the doors in which they had came and she stopped just a few steps ahead so she could thank him and say goodbye so he wouldn’t be late for work on her watch. When he leaned in to kiss her she lightly returned it pulling back again quickly to prevent it from lingering for too long. The days that had passed since she had last seen Kyle hadn’t changed anything, her emotions still a mess, her head not in the right place. Smiling she waved as he told her he would call her and walked in the opposite direction of where her car was parked to where his own was.
Ava waited until he was out of sight before turning around and pulling her phone out as she walked back towards her car. She hadn’t told Kyle where she was or who she was with and she felt terrible for him finding her like that, what he had seen she wasn’t even sure. Opening a blank message she wrote him a text: “What are you doing? Can we talk?” She watched the little envelope fly into the mailbox before turning it off again and climbing into the car. Her plan was to sit there and wait til he texted her back, if he even bothered.

Kyle lifted the tequila to his mouth and swallowed it in one big gulp, the moment it hit his throat it started burning all the way down his throat straight to his stomach, he coughed and pulled a face only a mother could love ”Terrible? That’s the understatement of the year…” he said to the barman who laughed heartily as he poured Kyle another shot, before taking it Kyle took a sip of his beer, the taste was amazing compared to the vile clear liquid he just drank, he could already feel the effects of the alcohol after only one shot, his head felt fuzzy, almost like the tequila was in fact A.D.D in a bottle, by the time the next shot was in front of him he forgot how bad it tasted and he threw it back as well, once again coughing but not pulling his face again. He continued the same routine with three more shots when he felt his cellphone vibrate in the left pocket of his jeans. When he got up he swayed from side to side, his clumsiness mixed with a fast amount of alcohol was bound to be catastrophic. Slowly he undid the buttons of his trench coat, which took him a while, but since he was already pretty drunk he didn’t care, everything seemed to be happening in slow motion. Once he got the trench coat off he handed it to the barman, slurring a thank you as he watched him put it away on a coat rack behind the bar. He then took his cellphone out of his pocket and tried going into his messages, it took him about five minutes to figure out he was holding his phone upside down and when he did he laughed loudly ”This stuff is really fucking me up….” he said slowly as he turned his phone the right side around and read the text. It was Ava, of course it was, she wanted to know where he was, wanted to talk. He sat back down on the barstool and typed out a reply to her shortly after, ‘Hy yo, im havn a fw drnks right nw, ill talk to yo ltr. Ths br hs the bst tquila evr! Pty the plce is sch a dmp.’ Was all he typed, together with horrible spelling which he didn’t even notice, which he sent to Ava and then gave his phone to the barman as well, who put it into the pocket of his trench coat.
The barman was just about to pour Kyle another shot when he stopped him, ”No thanks, I’ll just have another beer.” he said as he picked up his now empty beer bottle and swung it from side to side. The barman nodded and opened another one for him and put it down in front of him. The bar was almost empty, except for a few old men playing pool a few feet away from him and it was very quiet too, since no one went to the trouble of putting something on the rusty old jukebox that stood in the corner not to far from the door he came in through. Kyle took his beer, stood up and walked towards it, almost tripping over his own feet before he got there, but luckily he managed to keep his balance. Kyle stared at the jukebox for about a minute before shoving his hand into his pocket and taking out some change he just got from the barman after paying for the beer, threw it into the slow and pressed a random letter and number, after making a strange sound and old Def Leppard song came blasting out of the old speakers, the sound was surprisingly good for a jukebox that old. ”Whooohooo!” Kyle shouted followed by a funny sounding chuckle as he danced to the well known classic, or well, stumbled around to it at least.
He was no longer thinking about Ava, or what he had seen earlier, Kyle was in a world of his own now, a drunken, stupid world, but his own world where nothing could bother him. “Pour some sugar on me!” he yelled along to the song when it came to the chorus, causing everyone in the bar to look his way, they all laughed and shook their heads but soon went back to what they were doing, they were obviously all used to seeing people as drunk as Kyle was. The song wasn’t even halfway done when two girls entered the bar, they were even more obviously underage than Kyle was, but they didn’t seem to hesitate at all. ”Laaaaadies! Dance with me…” Kyle said with a huge smile as he approached them, both of them were already just about as drunk as Kyle was, so they accepted his request and danced with him, not too closely though, every time he felt one of them he moved back, they were definitely not his type, they were definitely not Ava.

It didn’t even take more than five minutes of waiting silently in her car before Ava’s phone buzzed with a text message from Kyle. She opened it up reading the words contained inside and knew by his spelling mistakes alone that him being at the bar meant he was trashed. The fact he wouldn’t talk to her though upset her and as she closed her phone she decided immediately she would be going to track him down. She plundered through town in her mind, through all the restaurants with bars and then onto the strictly just a bar joints in her head. If the place was a dump, that narrowed it down quite a bit. There were several nice ones in town, most of the dumpy places were the back alley kinds, off of the main street through town somewhere. Contemplating it for a few more minutes she knew quickly exactly where he was, considering he was walking he hadn’t gotten very far. The engine roared to life and she quickly pulled out onto the street and made her way a few blocks over before parking again and shutting off the engine.
Avalon took her Id out of her purse and shoved it back underneath of the front seat before stepping out and locking it behind her. If they had let Kyle inside they wouldn’t be giving her any hassle, especially since she had no plans on drinking. Not that her Id would do her any good being underage if they did ask for it. She opened the door and stepped inside as the smell of cigarettes about knocked her off her feet fighting back the urge to vomit. There weren’t too many people around, a few older men, some guys playing pool in a corner, and Kyle. He wasn’t hard to spot considering his normally low and very concentrated voice was now loud and obnoxious as it floated through the bar to where she stood just inside the main door. Looking across the room, though she spotted him near the jukebox dancing with two girls and immediately felt her face flush red in anger.
Taking a deep breathe in to calm herself Ava made her way across the bar to where Kyle was too busy making a fool of himself to even realize she had walked in. Moving one of the girls out of the way she stepped in between them and excused herself before taking his arm and moving him to the side of the room. “What are you doing Kyle?” She asked him with her voice struggling to remain low as she pointed her hand to the girls standing there watching her like she was an idiot for stepping in like she had. “You’re drunk.” It was more of a statement then a question as she smelt the alcohol radiating from his breath and clothes. She had never seen him like this before, EVER. There might have been a time or two she saw him with a beer but never drunk, it just wasn’t who he was. ”Let me take you home please?”

Kyle was having a pretty good time dancing with the girls, neither of them really seemed all that interested in him, they were just being good sports and seemed to be having a good time as well, just a few seconds before the song ended Kyle looked up to see Ava standing right in front of him, he frowned, confused, but then shrugged it off and smiled as she pulled him off to the side "I was dancing, before you so rudely interrupted." Kyle said with a chuckle, he was joking, but he wasn't too sure that Ava would see it that way and he honestly didn't care at that moment "W-what are you doing Ava?" he turned her question back onto her as he took hold of her hand and pulled it, with not too much force, off his arm. "No, really? Nice catch." Kyle said sarcastically when Ava mentioned him being drunk, rolling his eyes, the alcohol seemed to defiler him and caused him to speak as soon as something entered his mind, Kyle was like this when he was sober too, the only difference was that he thought about whether or not something would be hurtful before actually saying it.
When she asked to take him home Kyle laughed as he pictured his mother seeing him like this, he would be in trouble for staying out so late without so much as a text, but if he came home drunk there was no saying what she would do. ”Want to go home? If my heart were a house you’d be home right now.” he said seriously as he stared into her eyes, but he wasn’t able to remain serious for long and burst out laughing ”How cheesy am I?” he said shaking his head. ”I’m not going home, not now, not like this.” he finally answered her question pointing toward himself as he swayed from side to side, ”Don’t you have a date to get back to?” he asked seconds later before he could stop himself, he stood there silently for a second, but then shrugged turning around to walk back to the bar as he swallowed the last bit of his beer in one go.
Everyone in the bar were staring at them, as if watching a drama on TV, with looks of interest and anticipation on their faces.

Ava crossed her arms after he peeled her hand off of him and gave her a scolding look. She could have caught flies as far as her mouth was probably hanging open in shock to Kyle’s replies. He was quick and full of come backs that she would have never expected to come out of him, not to her anyways and it wasn’t welcome at the moment. His state was obviously not one of full competence or logic and he argued about leaving with her like he really had a choice. Eventually the bar would close, eventually he would have to leave, and if it wasn’t with her then it was with one of these other drunken idiots. Those were his choices.
“Is that was this is about?” Her eyes narrowed at him as he spit out something about the date he had seen her with earlier in the night. Why Ava hadn’t put two and two together when she first found out he was drinking she had no idea but now he had made it almost crystal clear at least to her why he was there. Looking around the room at all the people watching them she knew this wasn’t the place they should be arguing about this, among other reasons such as his current condition. Turning around and following him to the bar she gave the bartender a glare as if to tell him to not dare giving him another drink and asked him if he had any idea where Kyle’s things might be, surprised when he passed them across the bar to her. Pulling out her wallet Ava pulled a few large bills from inside and gave them to the bartender to cover whatever tab he had rang up and leave a nice sized tip. She thanked him then turned putting her hand on Kyle’s chest to prevent him from walking any closer and looked him in the eye wanting to compromise. “I won’t take you home, but you need to leave with me NOW please.” The now was emphasized probably just a bit dramatically to get her point across to his drunken mind.
Not bothering to wait for a reply Ava started walking towards the door making sure that Kyle was following her before actually leaving the establishment. “Get in,” she instructed him as she unlocked the car and walked around to her own side falling in and letting herself slump down into her seat before close her eyes. She had figured he would be upset, but not enough to do something like this, she didn’t understand it coming from him. Shaking her head she brought her eyes back up to the road ahead and started the car so she could get as far away from the bar as possible and get them back to her dorm. He needed to sober up so he could go home to his parents whether it be tonight or in the morning. Hopefully he would have some idea of what to tell them so that they didn’t worry about him being out late, possibly for the night.
Pulling up into the parking lot just in front of her dorm building Ava looked over to find Kyle completely passed out in the passenger seat. She hadn’t really had the opportunity to look before so she just figured he was silent due to lack of something to say, but this didn’t surprise her either as intoxicated as he was. The guilt welled up inside of her as she sat there staring at his sleeping body, his peaceful face, this was her fault. Grabbing his jacket and cellphone from his lap she nudged him a little bit til she saw him rouse. “Come on.”
She made sure he was out of the car before locking it behind her and trying to quietly help him inside to her room. The door shut and locked behind them and she set his things down on the desk to her right before pulling her boots and jacket off as well. “So0o0o,” she said as she turned on a small lamp in the corner instead of the main light and turned back towards him, “You wanna tell me what’s going on? What that was all about?”[/blockquote][/blockquote] TAG. Kyle WORDS. five-eighteen OUTFIT. CLICK. MUSIC. None. NOTES. Nope =) CREDITS. jurate @ CAUTION, please don't steal!

Kyle’s intoxicated state was causing him not to care, he still felt hurt, sad and angry, but it was somewhere in the back of his mind, only surfacing through sarcastic remarks and comebacks, he ignored her question about whether or not he was acting like this because of what he saw, wanting to answer her but at the same time not wanting to start an argument, not now when he was feeling so damn numb, so damn good. He knew she was following him to the bar and grunted when the barman gave her him things ”Oh come-on!” he said loudly, but he was angry, he was smiling as he took her hand gently off of his chest ”Fine, fine, I give up… You win, you’ll always win.” he said when she pleaded with him to leave, he could hear by the way she said it that she was very uncomfortable here and wasn’t going to take no for an answer.
Kyle followed Ava out of the bar, barely able to walk straight, ”Yes m’am!” he joked whilst doing a salute when she ordered him to get in, then got into the passenger seat slowly, chuckling at himself for how hard he had to concentrate to do such a simple thing. Once inside the car, he shut the door, maybe a little too hard, and rested his head against it, with his body turned to face Ava as much as he could, he still couldn’t help staring at her, even though he was wasted beyond recognition, even though what he had seen earlier ripped his heart out. He was only able to stay awake for a few minutes though, the motion of the car paired with the sound of small amounts of rain falling down on the roof of the car and of course the generous amount of alcohol in his system made him so relaxed and calm that he passed out without being able to stop it from happening.
He felt someone nudge him not too long after passing out and he opened his eyes slowly, smiling when he saw Ava, his head was spinning and his vision blurred but he managed to pull himself out of the car, then with Ava’s help made it into her dorm room, hopefully without waking her neighbors. Once inside Ava let go of him and without her there to help him keep his balance he settled for the wall closest to him, banging the back of his head hard as he fell against it. ”Ouwh…” he said sleepily, watching Ava take off her boots and jacket.
”Soooo….” he mocked Ava before she questioned him about his behavior, ”This, mon cheri, is me discovering a new way of coping with the suck fest that is my life.” he said as he attempted to stand up straight without the help of the wall, which he only just managed to do without falling on face. As he stood there, the room seemed to be spinning around him, he closed his eyes for a few seconds and opened them again, hoping that it would’ve stopped, but it didn’t, he started getting very nauseous and felt his stomach rumble, he never ate anything that night and the alcohol had ate through almost everything in his stomach. His face turned pale as he tried to prevent himself from throwing up, ”Ava, where’s the bathroom?” he asked as he looked at her, his tone the closest to serious that it has been all night, but just as unbalanced.

Watching him push himself up off the wall Ava rolled her eyes and waited for him to fall on his face, much surprised when he did not. His answer to her question though infuriated her. He had been awake all of two to three weeks and suddenly his life sucked. She didn't understand why he wasn't grateful that he had a life at all after being under for so long, the way he was acting was selfish. Taking the few steps that was between them and closing the gap she crossed her arms as she approached him again, ready to let him have it.
""Do you really think that you have any right to be acting like this?" The drunken stupor was going a little far, he was more then entitled to his feelings but when it came to the rest of it sometimes she felt like he was being over dramatic. She may not understand what he is going through , or what it was like to know you were or have been in a coma for a year, lose all those pieces of your life, but she was sure she wouldn't act like this. "Why does your life suddenly suck Kyle? You have your life! You almost had it taken away from you! Do you not realize that?" Her anger was more then apparent as her raised voice carried across the room, hopefully not disturbing any neighboring dorms. "You were the one who left me, not the other way around." She stopped taking a deep breath in to prevent herself from losing her mind completely. She looked at him again about to suggest a glass of water while she went and calmed down in the room but when his face flushed pale she knew quite quickly what was going on. "Door on the left." She told him pointing to the back wall of the room.
Once he was out of sight she took a seat on her bed and buried her face in her hands trying to let the tension drain from her body. It was hard for her to understand him sometimes, especially since waking up, but she knew that whatever it was he was going through she would never understand anyways. She had to try though, and the only way to do that was to be there no matter how hard it was.
Ava let herself cool down to a point where she didn't want to punch him in the face before regaining her composure and pushing up off the bed to go check on him. She knocked lightly on the door and let herself inside when he didn't answer to see him kneeling before the toilet his face hovering above it. Stepping around him she turned on some water to let it heat up and then pulled a towel from the cabinet on the wall laying it on the counter to the sink. " Try taking a shower. When you get out I will get you a glass of water and make you something to eat if you are still hungry after all this throwing up." Stopping in the door frame she turned around taking one more sympathetic look at the man on her floor, the man she had been in love with for so long, who now in some ways little ways had changed beyond recognition.
Shutting the bathroom door behind her Avalon stepped back out into the room and looked around unsure of what to do or where to start. She decided that changing into something more comfortable would be the best place and a few things from her drawers as she went from jeans and a nice blouse to shorts and a sweatshirt for the evening. Throwing her clothes in the dirty hamper she took a water from her fridge by the desk and sat in the chair taking a drink while she waited for him to get out so she knew what the plan was. She had contemplated laying down for a short time but she would only crash out and there was too much going on for that still yet.

Kyle looked at Ava as she went off on him, even in the state he was now he knew he deserved it, he knew what he did was overly dramatic and stupid and he knew he shouldn't have done it, the shame he felt at that moment was indescribable, the alcohol made him feel better, yes, but the aftermath of it wasn't worth it, the way he felt now wasn't worth it. It was the first time he has ever been drunk in his life, he liked the freedom he felt at first, the numbness but hated how the alcohol turned and made him feel like crap, emotionally and physically.
‘You were the one who left me, not the other way around.’ Those words stung worse than he ever thought possible.’ He responded to nothing she said but when he left her standing there, those words echoed in his mind. When he fell to his knees hard and threw up inside of the white porcelain toilet, it was all he could think off. ’Is she right? Is all this my fault?’ he thought once he had thrown up everything in his stomach, his thoughts were irrational though, how could he have stopped it?, She had every right to move on though, that he realized, a whole entire year passed without him, things changed, he had to accept that, he couldn’t expect everything to go back the way there were, but could she expect him to stick around and wait while she dated another guy?
When Ava came into the bathroom he lifted his head and wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, but he didn’t look at her, he couldn’t bare looking her in the eye after making such a fool of himself. Once she left the bathroom again, he got up from the floor, a bit light headed but now almost entirely sober, after getting rid of most of the alcohol in his stomach. He managed to undress himself without any problems and then got into the shower and washed himself and his hair properly. A million thoughts went through his mind and he felt what felt like a million emotions at once, shame, embarrassment, confusion, he couldn’t accept that she was seeing someone else and he could never just be her friend, it hurt too much having to picture her with someone else, not to mention seeing her with someone else, she would have to choose and until she did he would stay away, despite how hard he knew it would be. If she didn’t choose him, he’d have to get over it and move on with his life without her in it, as simple as that.
Once he was sure that the smell of vomit was no longer on him, he got out of the shower and looked at his clothes lying on the floor as his feet, deciding only to put on his boxers since the other smelt of cigarette smokes and tequila, which made him nauseous all over again. He dried himself off as much as possible, put on his boxer-shorts and checked himself in the mirror, his hair was messy but it didn’t look that bad, it actually suited him, the only thing that was an indication of his alcohol use was his bloodshot eyes.
Slowly Kyle opened the bathroom door and peeked out, seeing Ava sitting on a chair behind a desk and soon after walked towards her and put one hand on her shoulder ”I’m sorry, I know it doesn’t make up for anything, but I hope you believe that I never meant to hurt you… I, I… I only meant to stop myself from hurting.” he said, his words no longer slurry, not sure whether she would understand what he meant.

From behind her Ava heard the bathroom door open and his footsteps coming across til they stopped right behind her, the feeling of his hand falling on her shoulder apparent as she closed her eyes. He apologized for what he had done, getting drunk, what he said, but somehow it still didn't seem right to her. Did he honestly get it or was he just apologizing so the guilt he felt right then didn't have to get to him anymore? She shook her head and turned around to face him in the chair before speaking. " Kyle. You didn't choose to be in the accident, you didn't choose to go into a coma for a year. But neither did I ask for you too."
Ava stood reached back into the fridge pulling out another water bottle and setting it on the side of the desk for him if he so wanted it. The shower alone seemed to have done him a world of good, taking away the alcohol and cigarette smell, and his words being audible. It was at least a start. She looked at him feeling completely demolished and beaten down by the entire thing, the last few weeks, and threw her hands up shrugging her shoulders. "I lost hope. I lost a lot of things while you were out. My dignity, my care, my life. I stood by you for SEVEN months. No one understood it, I spent days and nights, laying in the hospital bed with you talking to you. Thinking somewhere you heard me, somehow you were coming back, til one day it just finally clicked what was happening to me."
Walking to the window Avalon looked outside as she heard another car door slam and some more kids came stumbling back into the dorms like she had done with him just an hour or so before. She stared for a while out into the night trying to find a way to make him understand, but she also wanted the hurt to go away. Hers and his. "It just happened. HE just happened." The curtain fell away from her hand and closed as she let go of it and slowly turned back around. "I know you are confused too, but how do you think I feel? I had convinced myself you were never coming back to let myself live again, to try and not fall into the darkest place I had ever been in my life. Which is exactly what I was doing. I slowly start climbing back out and suddenly here you are. Is everything really supposed to be alright? Is it supposed to be easy? Because I can tell you now it hasn't been. It has been one of the hardest years of my entire life and it hasn't gotten any easier lately. Trying to be here for you AND figure out what I want while still being around you, it's like completely contradictory. I can't think with you standing here because I don't want to be logical or rational, I just want it all to be how it was. I want what we had before. But it isn't that easy, it can't be that simple." It sounded like tears were coming but they weren't. Whether she was past the point of crying, or she just didn't need to at the moment it wasn't happening, the only real conclusion that she was upset at all came from the words she was saying and the way she choked as she tried to spit them out. Telling him all these things, she had tried to forget was going back to a point in time where she didn't ever want to have to go again, mentally, emotionally. Him standing before her though, his face begged for answers, for her to give him something to hold onto but she wasn't sure she could, that she had what he was looking for in her anymore.

As Ava spoke, Kyle just stood there, silently, listening carefully and trying his best to see her point of view, trying to put himself in her shoes and at least somewhat understand what she was going through. She was right about one thing, she never asked for this, she never planned for anything like this to happen, just as much as it wasn’t his fault it wasn’t hers either, neither of them were responsible, neither of them could’ve predicted or prevented the accident. What happened after the accident, after he found out about their past, were all conscious decisions though and he wished he could have a do-over, he would do so many things differently, now that he looked back on it, he realized how many stupid things he did, how irrationally he acted, but since he couldn’t go back he would just have to try and fix things and earn her forgiveness over time, he couldn’t change the past but the present was still there and he decided that from that moment on, he would think things through carefully first before making any decisions, before reacting in any way.
The way Ava’s voice sounded when she spoke about the year he was gone and what she said broke Kyle heart, he never really stopped to think, REALLY think about what life would’ve been like for her, instead he was selfish and only cared about getting what he wanted, which was her. He didn’t fully realized how confused she would be having him back in his life, but now that he really thought about it and tried seeing things in her perspective, he could see why it was pretty normal for her to be confused, he showed out totally unexpected and turned her whole life, or what was left with it after having spent so many months at his side, upside down. ”I’m sorry, I know it’s all I’ve been saying lately, but I’m really, truly, sorry… I never even stopped and thought, really thought about you and how me coming back turned your life upside down… I just tried putting myself in your shoes and your confusion is more than to be expected.” he said as he went to his knees in front of her, looking her straight in the eyes. He took a long deep breath before he spoke again, letting everything she just said go through his mind again, ”I get it now, I do, I want nothing more than to be with you, to have what we had on that vacation again, but you’re right… It’s not that simple. It’s been really difficult since waking up, not remembering anything or anyone, when I found you and felt that connection I guess you could say I turned selfish, I wanted to feel what I felt with you, you gave me hope that the future could make up for everything I couldn’t remember and I wanted to hold onto that, especially after finding out we had a past, I stupidly expected everything to just fall in place without a hitch and as soon as something happened that I didn’t see coming I acted like a complete asshole.” he said as he took her right in his, absent mindedly fiddling with the ring on her finger.
He kept quiet for a while after that, trying to put his thoughts into words, but soon spoke again ”I want another shot at this, but I already asked for a second chance and messed it up already, I might not deserve another one… I don’t think I do” he said shaking his head, he still couldn’t stick around and see her with someone else, but he knew now wasn’t the right time to be making ultimatums, he would leave that for when she had calmed down a bit. Kyle said nothing else, he couldn’t really explain his actions any better, and there was really no excuse for them other than selfishness, him putting his needs before hers, at least most of the time. With a small sigh Kyle reached up and took the water bottle he was sure she took out for his and screwed off the cap, his mouth was so dry, it felt like he hadn’t had a drink in years, he downed the entire bottle in about thirty seconds and put the lid back on before wiping his mouth with the back of his hand.

Never for two seconds had she doubted why he felt the way he did but that didn’t make it any easier on her. Avalon understood as much as she could why and how he would want to keep that connection at a place in his life where he feels like he has nothing and no one else, but the decision wasn’t his alone. Whether or not she ended up with him she hoped for his sake he regained some other memories, allowed himself to live his life again like he did before the accident. She didn’t want him to feel like this forever, she didn’t want to be the only thing he felt he could hold onto from his life before, the only connection he had to his past. Kyle’s fingers played with the ring he had given her on her hand and she watched it twist around her finger, eyes frozen in place almost like she was a zombie.
Kyle took the water bottle and downed it quickly while she took this opportunity to break the awkwardness and find something for him to eat. There was bags of ramen, some things for sandwiches, a box or two of crackers, among other things. She opted for simple though taking out the bread and lunch meat and quickly putting him together something that resembled food and placing the plate on the desk where she had left him with a few different condiments to choose from to top it with. “Here. You need to eat something.”
Ava got a paper towel for him to use as a napkin and passed it off as well before excusing herself to the bathroom for a moment to herself. The night had been a rollercoaster that didn’t seem like it was stopping any time soon and if that were the case she needed to breathe for a minute and finish a few of the thoughts in her head to feel at least a little at piece with what was going on. Taking a washcloth from the cabinet she splashed her face with a bit of water and washed the makeup off carefully before towel drying it and pulling her hair back again. Taking a look in the mirror she shook her head in disbelief, look at the mess you have made for yourself she thought silently before retreating from the bathroom back into the dorm where he waited.

Ava gave no oral reaction to what he said, but he knew she heard him and could only hope she understood what he said, all he had to go on was her body language and facial expressions, which didn’t give him anything, she just sat there, frozen like an ice statue, which he assumed meant she was lost in thought. After putting the empty bottle into a nearby trashcan he watched as Ava got up and headed to the kitchen-like part of the room, he sat down flat on the ground as he watched her make the sandwiches without speaking, he had really nothing left to say, nothing that would make sense anyway. When she put it down in front of him he grabbed a sandwich, his stomach grumbling audibly when the food came within grabbing range. ”I don’t deserve this…” he said as he held up the sandwich slightly ”…but thank you.”
When Ava left the room Kyle ate the sandwich in which he was sure could’ve been a world record, after adding a little mustard to it. He then stood up, wiped his mouth with the napkin she gave him and started pacing through the room after throwing the napkin away. He wasn’t sure what to do now, she wasn’t really saying all that much so he didn’t know if staying the night was even an option, he knew he couldn’t go back home and had no idea where else he would go. He worried about this for a few minutes while she was gone, but came to the conclusion that she wouldn’t have let him take a shower there if she was planning on asking him to leave, she wouldn’t make him walk home at this time of night, or at least he hoped she wouldn’t.
When Ava got back in to dorm Kyle stopped pacing and looked at her and without thinking twice he walked up to her, grabbed her by her hips and pulled her into his arms, closing his eyes as he hugged her for a few seconds, savoring the moment since he wasn’t sure how many were still left for them. He then pulled away, but only slightly, his lips only inches away from hers, ”Fancy some cuddling?” he asked with one eyebrow raised and a crooked smile, he didn’t know where his playfulness suddenly came from, but decided to make the most of it. It was part of the ‘savoring every moment’ thing, he didn’t want what could be their last night together be all gloom and doom.
Without waiting for an answer Kyle lifted her off the ground and carried her to her bed, with one arm around her back and one just below her knees, he had no trouble with her being to heavy, she was so petite he barely felt strained doing it. Once he reached the bed he put her down it, ”Want me to get you one of those sandwiches first?” he asked, ”That’s assuming you don’t want to slap me first for man-handling you like that.”[/color[ he added with a laugh. Kyle wasn’t totally over what he saw tonight, but decided that he was going to let it go, at least for the night and just enjoy this time he had with her.

Ava was on her way back to sit down at the desk when Kyle cut her off and pulled her into his body enveloping her in his arms and holding on to her tightly for a few minutes. She was caught off guard but it was a welcome surprise reassuring her that what she had said didn’t make him feel any differently than he had before. He pulled away but not far, his face only inches from her own as he asked if she wanted to lay with him and cuddle. It was a tempting choice, almost like the proximity in which he was to her right then, but neither would help her mind frame or the situation.
He hadn’t given her mind the time to contemplate an answer for him when he lifted Ava off the ground causing a low surprised gasp to leave her. Kyle walked her slowly across the room and lowered her down into the bed dropping her gently into the blankets and offered to get her some food first. She wasn’t hungry though, she hadn’t even eaten much at her dinner, food was the furthest thing from her mind anyways as she shook her head in denial of his offer “No.” She replied pushing herself further back on the bed and throwing back the covers to crawl underneath. “Will you turn off the big light on the desk first please?” She knew once she was in the bed she wouldn’t want to get back up before going to sleep and making him do it wouldn’t be right either.
Ava shoved her arm under a pillow and laid herself down while she watched Kyle do as she had requested and make his way back across the room to her bed. He crawled in beside her and she gave him a smile moving over to make sure he had enough room. “Did you call your mom or at least leave her a message so she knows you are okay?” If he hadn’t then his mother would flip out when he got home in the morning and there was no way she was taking the fall for that one. He was drunk, but not stupid, the least he could do was text her so she would get it before she went to bed if she had been up waiting, or if she had gone to bed, then when she first woke up.

Once switching off the light he grabbed his phone from the desks and headed back to the bed, he saw Ava smile, which made him happy, it was a sign, although small, that she was warming up to him again after his colossal night of stupidity. Carefully, he lifted the blanket and got into bed, looking at Ava as he did for any sign of discomfort or rejection from her side, which he didn’t notice, if there even was any. The warm blanket came as a great relieve to Kyle, who was pretty chilly without a shirt, he just didn’t say anything about it because he didn’t want to give Ava yet another problem to solve. He shivered slightly as he slid deeper under the blanket, at the end it was only his eyes sticking which was of course focused on Ava.
Just as they both fell silent for a few seconds there was a huge crack and a bang, lighting, hitting the ground just outside her window followed almost immediately by roaring thunder and it wasn’t even a second later when the rain started coming down hard. Kyle shook a little, ”Ok, I almost crapped my self just then.” he said laughing hard as he rolled on his side, facing Ava, pulling the blanket off his face.
”Oh right, crap…” Kyle said, totally forgetting that he never let his mother know where he was and that he was ok, it was well after twelve now and he knew a text wouldn’t cut it, so he sat up straight, bent down and picked his phone up, which he had put next to the bed just before getting in and held in the number seven button, which was his speed dial button for his mom. The phone barely passed two rings before his mother answered ”Kyle?! Are you ok, where are you?” his mom sounded really worried and the guilt showed on Kyle’s face, ”I’m at Ava’s mom, had a bit of a… Uhm… Breakdown, she helped me figure it out…. I’m sure you know there’s a huge storm going on outside, so I think I’m going to sleep her tonight and see you in the morning….” he said loudly, shaking his head as he spoke, he couldn’t believe how he was lying to his mother, sure he did a few times before the accident, but he didn’t know that and didn’t think he was the type that would lie so blatantly. ”You could’ve just texted Kyle! I was worried sick!” she said, ”But ok, we’ll talk about it tomorrow.” she added, sounding relatively pissed before hanging up.
”I’m really in for it tomorrow…” he said as he put the phone back on the ground before lying down again, once again on his side facing Ava, the blanket this time only covering his hips ”I deserve it though.” he added, he knew Ava was probably going to give him crap about it as well so he decided to try and distract her as best he could, so with a small mischievous smiled he yanked the blanket off her and started tickling her ”Don’t be mad, don’t be mad….” he said as he did so.
