personality: Usually nice, won't start rumors but isn't above listening to interesting things that are said or sharing what wasn't specifically stated as private. Her sense of drive is weak, having been raised by a laid-back mother who didn't care much what Lindsey did as long as she was reasonably safe. She's easily hurt but will hide it from everyone except those she's closest to, and similarly wants approval from those she likes even when she doesn't appear to be actively seeking it. She wants to try everything and as a result she has quite a bit of superficial experience but hasn't delved very deeply into any hobby or area of knowledge.
likes: Music, staying up late, being outside, being around other people, hanging out by pools, going to visit new places, shopping.
dislikes: Studying, strict teachers, Mondays.
strengths: Generally speaking, change doesn't bother her. If her room assignment changes or class is canceled or something else upsets the structure of her day, she's fine with that - sometimes even welcoming the break in the routine. There isn't much that scares her, so her stress level, though not non-existent, are fairly low, at least unless something happens that genuinely is a big deal and is causing her an equally big problem. She's open-minded and generally tolerant, very slow to anger but willing to stand up for herself when necessary.
weaknesses: She lacks discipline, and while she won't completely neglect responsibilities, she's been known to cut corners, rush through, and do only the bare minimum if she doesn't want to do something. Fails to completely consider possible consequences of her actions. She's resentful of authority figures imposing rules that she thinks are arbitrary, which is most rules that don't involve obvious things like prohibiting theft and assault. And she has no real plans for the future, putting off decision-making because she can't decide and doesn't want to yet.

father: Paul Brighton, b. 1963 - parents married but her mother didn't change her surname. Paul has been with a traveling band for most of his adult life, and still thinks they can make it big, even if the last twenty years have been working for a little bit of money here and there at very small live shows. His relationship with Lisa has always been a little complicated, though neither seems overly distressed at the arrangement, at least not in front of Lindsey. Paul's wealthier sister, Debbie, took it upon herself to see that Lindsey got a better education after watching Chase barely graduate and move on to low-paying work, and she pays most of Lindsey's tuition. Paul covers the rest.
siblings: 1 brother, Chase, born 1987; he moved out three years ago.
significant other (s): Currently none, but that's been known to change rapidly; she's been in a relationship for several months, and they keep breaking up and getting back together.
pets: Two cats, Sandy and Jane, both back at home (with her mother and maternal grandparents).
hometown: Not inside any city limits. Grandma and Grandpa have a small house with several acres of land around it, and Lindsey and Chase grew up there with their mother.[/ul]

Lindsey stared at the stack of books on her desk for a few minutes longer than it should take to read the titles, then straightened up the stack and turned on her computer to check for new email and friends' status updates. It was entirely too much work for a weekend, especially on a Friday afternoon; some of it could wait until Sunday. She promised herself she'd at least start the math homework before going to bed, so she'd know if she'd need to get help on it, but the past few lessons had been easy enough that she could do them on her own.
Her phone rang and she picked it up, hoping it was someone calling to tell her which friend would be driving that evening and what time they were all going to meet up. The voice on the other end was someone else, but after that flash of disappointment, she didn't mind. "Hi, Mom," she said. "...No, I haven't finished packing yet. I haven't even started. School isn't out for another month... it's four more weeks, I promise. And Chase said he'd help carry my stuff out so you don't have to bring Grandpa all the way out here." Her grandfather had arthritis in several joints and couldn't move as well as he used to, and her father was still out in Ohio - or was it Illinois now? She couldn't really remember his itinerary.
After a few more minutes they hung up and Lindsey went back to reading her e-mail, with an open half-full can of Diet Crush on one corner of the desk and a notebook covered in scribbles and doodles on the other. The end of the year was looming up, and after being away at school for a year, she knew that the summer, with all its perks, was going to make finding things to do a challenge. With some luck she would get invited to see Aunt Debbie and Uncle Mark up in New York, but they were both very busy and she didn't feel right asking.
Not even five minutes went by and the phone rang again. Lindsey snatched it up off the desk and when she saw her best friend's name come up as the caller, she flipped the phone open to answer.
