personality:
- Silly: absurd; ridiculous; irrational; She can't help it, Avery is just plain loud. If she really has to, she knows how to whisper, but she would much rather be yelling at the top of her lungs. When she's excited or happy, she has no problem expressing herself, though others, including her friends, sometimes have a problem with her loud nature, as sometimes it can get annoying, but in her mind, they just have to get used to it. She's not going to stop expressing herself and being loud because it annoys someone else. It's who she is.
- Fearless: without fear; bold or brave; intrepid; Avery is pretty much fearless, at least, that's what she wants people to believe. In reality, she is terrified of committing to a relationship, as well as being afraid of heights and small spaces, but she never lets people see how scared she is. Instead, she simply avoids situations in which she would appear vulnerable, such as taking the stairs instead of the elevator, and never letting herself get romantically close to someone.
- Thoughtful: showing consideration for others; considerate Some people think it's funny to watch other people get hurt; Avery doesn't. She tries not to do anything that will hurt anyone else, physically or mentally. Often times she will put other people's needs before her own, but not if it's putting her own life in danger, unless the person is someone she loves. In that case, she'd willingly give up her life for theirs.
- Trustworthy: deserving of trust or confidence; dependable; reliable; Avery always does what she says she's going to do... unless, of course, she was being sarcastic. But if she was serious, she tries her best to follow up, and do good by her promises. When someone confides in her, she keeps it to herself, not telling anyone else if the person wants it kept a secret. Her friends know they can trust her with anything.
- Tolerant: inclined or disposed to tolerate; showing tolerance; forbearing; Avery doesn't give a crap whether you're white, black, or green, gray, straight, or bi. It really doesn't matter to her, a person is a person, and everyone deserves the same amount of respect. She is also very good at tolerating little children who are crazy, or old people who can't do anything. Little things that tend to bug other people, don't bug Avery, she's good at not getting mad or annoyed.
- Irresponsible: said, done, or characterized by a lack of a sense of responsibility; Anything she doesn't want to do, Avery puts off to the last minute. She is a huge procrastinator. From schoolwork to daily chores, if she can get out of it, she will, and if she can't, she might just not do it. She just doesn't care enough to do it, or she'd rather be doing something else.
- Closed-off: having or forming a boundary or barrier; Avery is very good at not letting other people in. She doesn't show her emotions, and pretty much hides anything important. People don't expect there to be something wrong with her, because of her happy and crazy exterior, but inside, a lot goes on that no one else knows about, and that's the way she needs it. It's not good for anyone to bottle things up, but she doesn't know how to let go of old habits and let someone in.
- Wild: characterized by or indicating violent feelings or excitement, as actions or a person's appearance; This girl loves to party, and when she does, she gets pretty crazy. Often times, Avery will have too much to drink, and go completely crazy. If someone isn't there to make sure she doesn't do something stupid, she would probably get herself into serious trouble.
- Loud: strongly audible; having exceptional volume or intensity; She can't help it, Avery is just plain loud.

Oh God how she hated this place. The school really wasn't that bad, in fact it was almost better than her first high school. It was easy to sneak in alcohol, and the teachers had as many, if not more, problems as the kids did. She basically got to do whatever she wanted without punishment, and even if she did get caught, detention was pointless, the kids all screwed around in there and rarely got in more trouble for it. Besides, she had friends at Darlington, and all summer she'd been wishing she could go back.
No, the problem was the weather. Heat, Chris could handle heat, but humidity... well, that was a different story. Humidity was something Chris hated. All she did was sweat, and sweat some more, and she found herself having to take at least two showers a day just to stay feeling clean. Now, she wasn't a clean freak, and of all of her problems, OCD was not one of them, but she hated feeling dirty. Her skin itched, her hair was dry, and there was always the possibility of acne. No, two showers a day, at least. Until winter came, and it wasn't so God damn hot.
At least she was away from her father. Summers were always the worst, going home. Since Asher had moved out a year ago, her beatings had gotten worse. She guessed it was because she was the only one for him to take his anger out on, instead of being able to spread the wealth over all of his children. At first, Chris had tried to stay away from the house, running away in a sense. But Jean was getting smarter, and decided to call the cops to go find her. He knew she wouldn't tell them he was hurting her.
Her eldest brother, Jean Jr., had always told them not to say anything to anyone, because they might get split up in the adoption process. Now it was only her, so that wasn't a problem anymore, but... She felt if she tattled when her brothers had been able to take it, she would be weak, and that they would look down on her. So she stayed away as long as she could without Jean calling the police, went back home for a day, took the pain, and left again. She still had the bruise on her stomach from him hitting her about a week before she left for Darlington, all yellows and dark purples.
The young woman lay on the roof of Darlington, four inch heels flung in the grass about a foot away, legs cross, and the sun beating down on her. Yeah, it was hot, but it was less likely she'd get caught up there than in her room. And the cold alcohol was helping cool her down. She lifted the off-white bottle with its silver trees to her lips and took a sip, letting the vodka consume her taste buds before letting the liquid slide down her throat.
